sorry guys, i don't know where else to post this,so i'm sking some of you here....
my favorite car forum is
http://www.z31.com
i never had problems with going into the site using my webtv, but when i use my computer it's slow getting the page to come up and every page after....
sometimes it takes up to 2 minutes!
others have had the same problems....i have been told to clear my cookies and history...etc...nothing has really worked so far.
my computer has been optimized by using the tips in the tweaking forum.
i have a 1500/128 charter cable connection.
windows XP
IE6
any help?
maybe its their site? but my webtv always loads the site super fast!

I don't know why or what is causing this, but you are not alone. It's got something to do with IE 6. I've complained about it and so have many others on many other forums. It's a problem that cropped up about 8 weeks ago. I'm wondering if it's not one of the critical updates that messed things up. Sorry I don't have an answer for you that will help.
What I've done and a few others is to download and use Mozilla 1.4 for the time being.
http://www.mozilla.org It is very fast. At the very least, it'll at least let you know if it's just IE 6 or if something more is going on with your computer. Might want to give it a shot and see for yourself.
You may want to read the thread below. It's from a couple of us here that are having problems too:

;oads real fast for me.
probably they have overloaded server.
next time it's slow, do a tracert and see exactly where trhe slow comes from.

My tracert and pings all came up perfectly normal. This is why I'm stumped. It truly acts like packets are getting lost in a black hole somewhere but nothing shows up in the tracerts or pings.
The past 2 days, this thing has been acting normal again. Something is going on but what it is eludes me.

About 4 seconds to load here.

Came up fine for me, a whisker slow but probably hosted on a sluggish webserver. But literally just a second delay or so compared to most high bandwidth sites. I'm using Win2K and the latest IE 6 with all updates.

Hop 13 may or may not be the problem, but I'm thinking it is. Nothing you can do about it except wait until the problem is resolved.

Try this 1st . ( It may not apply )
Slow IE .
4) Better Than Rogaine
http://www.langa.com/newsletters/2003/2003-04-28.htm
Start > Find > Files or folders , type into the top space > Hosts (no extension, just Hosts . Make sure you are in C drive ) & press Enter .
You may have 2 hosts files , 1 is a sample ( SAM ) file .
The other is associated to this >
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.zip
http://technoerotica.net/mylog/hostfile.html
SpyBot have a Host file list .
http://beam.to/spybotsd
If you would like to completely disable your Hosts file, rename it to "Hosts.txt". When you want to use it again, change it
back to "Hosts".
http://www.accs-net.com/hosts/how_to_use_hosts.html

Another way to fix IE6 slow page load with XP .

Please try the following:
Click the Refresh button, or try again later.
If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.
To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
If your Network Administrator has enabled it, Microsoft Windows can examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings.
If you would like Windows to try and discover them,
click Detect Network Settings
Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed.
If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
Click the Back button to try another link.

http://www.more.net/technical/pingtrace.html
Ping in Windows
Ping is a diagnostic tool used to test connectivity. The ping command sends out a packet of information and records the response time from the destination. Usually the lower the time, the better. It does this four times.
Time in ms:
up to 200 is very good
200 to 500 is marginable
over 500 is unacceptable
an * is a total failure

Well it see's there server and its responding. I can't believe this is a browser problem because its done it on all that you have tried. have you tried to go to the ip directly?
http://198.67.13.170/
Have you tried another dns server in your configuration? Try adding say yahoo's dns and see if that helps, maybe your isp's dns is not working correctly. add this one to the front of the list and see what happens. 66.218.71.205

OK your problem is very likely McAfee's firewall. All of their products are resource hogs and their firewall will slow your connection. I HIGHLY recommend uninstalling it and installing
Sygate, you can try the Pro version for 30 days or just use the FREE one, in any case I guarantee you will be much happier all around getting rid of McAfee.

ok guys...with further inspection of my set up...i decided to look into the Firewall, and the 2 other sites(srtforums.com and boston-motorsports.com) were on my banned I.P. list.
i unbanned them and now they are working like they used to...now what i'm wondering is how did they get banned automatically?
another thing.....z31.com is still loading slow....it's I.P. is not in the banned list of sites.
at least i learned about the firewall thing.
