I could see where you would be able to pull it from 5th to 2nd, but that would have had to be a perfect pull for it not to hit the shift gates in between. Generally there isn't any lockout that I know of for the typical gears, only reverse lockout. Hope he learns a nice lesson from all of that

Most people learn through common sense, others have to learn in a hurry the hard way. Pretty hard to go from 5th to 2nd if you have a slight clue about standard trannys.

Most of the time the motor will bounce off of the rev limiter, I bet when he had the computer flashed they either raised that or disabled it.
I've never seen a motor wasted like that outside of the track, I wonder what else was going on inside that motor.

Now you know some of the cons with cast aluminum... For some reason, I have a feeling that the car was dogged out routinely... Sooner or later, somethings gotta give...

He must have really slammed it into gear to make that much of a rev change instead of just buzzing the gears.
A rev limiter doesn't mean a thing if you mechanically force the engine to higher revs.
Anyway, todays lesson is about turning pistons into golf balls. This is the first step. They aren't round enough so we need to run them through again.

Actually they were 125 or 130hp. The older Iron Dukes, TB fuel injections like in the early Fiero's, and other common GM small cars like the Grand Ams of the mid to late 80's...were 88hp.

Any idea how many ponies the stock 4.0 puts out ?
I can't find a real stats page for anything about the 99 Sport.

Tires are 205/55-16's stock
1st 3.267
2nd 2.130
3rd 1.517
4th 1.147
5th 0.921
6th 0.738
Final 4.389
if my math works out for me that equates to:
7000RPM in 5th = 206km/h or 128mph
to hit 206km/h in 4th, you would have an engine spinning at 8706 RPM's
now second gear on the otherhand...
16168 RPM

I believe it's still 190 hp/235 torque stock on this years models...haven't heard of any increases. What's nice is 90% of it's power and torgue are available at such low rpms on this engine...like a tractor!

To answer your question ... NOPE
Honda (and Acura) now have a code that can be accessed in the computer (ECM) that tells them if the car was over-reved. We have had 3 of these cases at our dealership. Problem is that these kids (yes I said kids) have parents who have more money then brains and buy these kids these cars. The kids have no experience driving them and this is the results.
We had one come in and he got it fixed (Mommie & Daddie payed the bill) and when he picked it up he went outside and started it right up and reved the livin' $hit out of it. He must have been tachin' 8000 RPMs from the get go ... stone cold. We ran out and yelled at him to stop and he said he was just making sure that we fixed it right.
Hey ... it's his money (or should I say Mommie & Daddie's) ... dumba$$

Some people just don't get it. Just wait until he's buying his own ride and has to pay the bills.
thx
