What effects Load times in games. Such as in Neverwinter Nights, while trying go to another area, you have to load it and then enter it.
I would of thought my AMD 2000 system would beat my AMD 1600 in loading but it does not. Any suggestions?

many things have an impact on load times, but the primary factor is HDD bus/transfer speed since the HDD is from where the data that is being loaded is coming from.
from there it gets really complicated...... background processes taking up CPU cycles and bus controller activity, the amount of physical RAM you are running (the more RAM you have, the more that can be stored there instead of the much slower virtual memory/HDD), bus controller efficiency, etc.
the easiest way to increase load times is to run a lean system and have a fast HDD and IDE (or SCSI or whatever) controller.

if you nhave to have the cd in the drive when you play then create a virtual drive and load the game onto it. you no longer need the cd to play and the hdd is much faster at loading than the cd rom.

Ram DEFINATELY helps
Battlefield 1942 - my load times with 256 megs were like a minute
now they are 10-15 seconds after adding another 256..

Battlefield's sweet spot for RAM is 768...keep adding. Smooth as silk on a gig.
Load times for me were sliced in half when I upgraded to the WD Raptor SATA drive...with it's 10k rpm.

It's all about the 768 sweet spot! I'm so jealous of your Raptor SATA drive.. that must be sweet..

I went from 256 to 768 and the difference was like night and day.
I thought it was connection speed at first.
