Mandrake 8.2 not access cd drive.

I recently installed mandrake 8.2 as a duel boot with my windows XP os. Linux recognizes the cd drive but when I try to access it, it says that access is denied and will not read the cd drive. It is a cd-rw. I also reinstalled by Zip 100 today and Linux will not even recognize this drive. I would appreciate any help.

You can't access the CD drive because you don't have the proper permissions to do so. The ZIP drive won't work untill you configure the kernel to recognize it.
Subscribe to the mandrake user mailling list and ask for more help there. The people on that list are good at breaking newbies, I know from experience

If you want to be able to access your CD drive add your user to the cdrom group in /etc/group. You'll need to logout and then back into your host for the changes to take affect.
In order to use your ZIP drive (assuming it's an IDE one) you'll need to enable SCSI emulation in the kernel. Usually this can be done by passing a boot argument to the kernel. (hdx=ide-scsi)
