Hi,this is my first post here and I`ve been browsing the forum to see if I had an answer to my question. I`m a noob regarding internet connections.I tried to ask my ISP what I should use but the answer was an indifferent YAWN.
I have 2 stationary PCs. (one is running XP and one Win2k)One of them is presently connected to internet via a cable modem (cable joint with TV). I`m now going to connect both of them to internet and I also want the printer to work with both of them.
But I have not much knowledge in how it should be done.Is there anyone who has a good suggestion on what device to use?

Welcome to Speedguide

, the absolute best solution is a router. You have firewall protection with it and your connection won't suffer, I suggest a Linksys.

Wow,thx.That was a fast reply

.Linksys have to be the manufacturer of the device?

I agree....just get a router. They come with a built in 4 port switch....so unless you have a larger network, you don't need anymore equipment.
Routers provide your network with a good basic hardware firewall...their NAT...an advantage over most software means of sharing an internet connection.
They maintain an "always on" connection for your computers on the network...another advantage they have over software internet connection sharing...where one computer (the one with two network cards that acts as the proxy server) has to be always on for the others.

about the printer....
you can just hook your printer up to your comp and share it.
or you can get a print server..

Thx all for your kind replyes. I have ordered a Linksys router, will be delivered tomorrow. The type I ordered ( after having e-mailed the Scandivaian wholesalers) is type BEFSX41. There is a cheaper model of the same, but with less efficient firewall.
Thx again

Pretty good little router...I've got a few out there in the field. Incredibly easy to setup a VPN tunnel between two of them also....so you can tie together two networks.
