First off, this is a great site & haved learned A LOT reading here.

My problem is, my new ProView 19" flat screen monitor is fuzzy. I have W2K pro in an HP Pav/P3 550mhz. I went to Proviews site & d/l'ed the driver for it but I can't get it to install. There instructions (3 versions) seem to be for Win95/98. They say 2K, but the options are not in my menu. I tried to add them by useing the add/hardware wizard & told it I had a disc. Then I used the browse button to the file & all it says is "the specified location does not contain information about your hardware". I even tried to move a copy of the inf file into the Windows/INF folder & that didn't work either. I'm lost now (after 4 hours of this) & don't know where to go. Any ideas??

try your newest video drivers? upping the refresh rate? resolution?

Ok here you have two options, you can either restert ur computer in safe mode and see if the problem still persists

Boot up PC Just as it boots into win2k, it displays a white bar along the bottom, press F8 and choose boot insafe mode.

I presume that your monitor is fine in DOS, if soo it is not a physical hardware problem with the monitor (or it should not be)

Ok now you are in safe mode you should be able to use your PC with no problems, in which case it is a driver issue either with the monitor or the graphics card.

First of try installing the drivers that you downloaded. if not go here http://www.driverguide.com they have links and drivers for most hardware and perifs.

Ok to install the driver do it manually, go to start-> settings -> control panel-> then system-> then hardware -> then device manager..... once in here look under monitors and your monitor should apear.

Now right click and go to properties and then driver tab @ the top.

Now locate the driver that you downloaded, with windows 2000 you should be able to use the drivers for the following platforms WIN ME WIN 2K or WIN XP....well in my case i can sometimes but try that.

Ok now that should work, if not look at the refresh rate of the monitor it is on the back panel and that tells you what default or the max it can run it usually 70 mhz for a flat pannel.

Ok if that still does not work try getting the latest drivers for ur graphics card, try http://www.driverguide.com.

any more problems try the monitor on another base unit or try a diffrent monitor on ur base unit.

I did check for a driver update for my video card & nothing. I did try different resolutions & refresh rates & nothing. I ended up calling ProView (3 times) but the 3rd time was the charm. The tech asked if I had a monitor extention cord on it & yes I did have to put one on this one since the cord was to short. He said I should to try it without since I have a good video card. Sure enough, the picture is super sharp & clear now. Time to find a short sheilded cord (per his advice) since it seems this one is not sheilded. So I wanted to say thanks for the advise & wanted to post the follow up.
