yes, your dad is wrong. Tell him he's wrong. It won't ruin his car. Have fun at the rail road tracks! :)

Personally I wouldn't be breaking over railroad tracks.

is it ok to hold on the brakes while going over a set of train tracks or speed bumps??
my dad says it can ruin the brakes....is this true?

thz
hmmm. Might stress them a bit. It could put some flat spots on the tires, though. Just remember that any time your wheels are locked you have no steering control so it would be best to just roll over the bumps.

How about brake enough before the tracks so you don't hit the tracks too hard and just roll over them and don't keep the brake down....

Don't tell him so. Let him have his way. No sense in starting an argument about a minor point. Just roll over the bumps anyway.

That's the way. Look down the road, anticipate any obstacles, and adjust your speed accordingly.

Braking over the tracks put alot of stress on the car. Your better off braking before like AAF stated.

It’s like I tell my son. (example) You want to drive your car fast over the railroad tracks because it looks cool and makes you feel cool… then fine. Go ahead. It’s your car.

If you want to drive over the tracks in my car… you follow my rules. If you don’t... you no longer have the privilege of driving my car. You decide.

I don't doubt that you have a lot of wrecks per week. I know some places like that. What I doubt is that most of them are fatality's, like you said. If there was quite a few, the school, and/or the lawmakers would put up some sort of stop light, or they would have police waiting outside to watch. :)
