Technically...yes but you are doing it to help others...they won't ding you for that.


I scan all the damn time at night....I'm looking for people who have insecurities. I tell the people of their insecurities by many different means...one of which is to call @home and to let them know that John Q. Public has file and print sharing enalbled...has the Sub7 trojan on his machine and is a threat to all of our security...@home works with me every time I call because I'm trying to help people stay SAFE! Thats white hat for ya!

I have taken down tons of child pornography servers before. It is truley disgusting.

But, if you are ratting out the very servers you take files from, for personal use.. then go behind these peoples back and report them to the isp, you got something else comming your way.

And, It is strictly said in the AUP to not scan ISP's ip space. If they want to catch the people, they will run there own scans from there own servers. They dont know some "knowitall" who downloads 7th Sphere and hits the scan button

Exactly what I do, but its usually more to do with linux insecurities.

Normally, a password protected limited ftp account is ignored by @home...they're more concerned with the warez dishing anonymous ftp servers that suck down the bandwidth in a given area...

Some providers, during the big who hah over code red, were shutting down people who didn't have their system patched properly and were letting their system get infected and clog bandwidth with their scanning...

As for me, my little firewall software lets me know who's trying to do what to me, and if it's something malicious and repeated, and if they're on an @home system, they're going to get shut down for violating the aup...I'm not concerned with the http probes so much as I am the scans that I get such as sub7, black orifice, or other scans searching for trojans...those indicate typically someone looking for machines to ravage, or machines that have been infected...

Well my wife told me to report these people to @home, we all know how demanding our wifes can be. Plus she's at that time of the month so i better do what she says.
