that's HUGE!!! I heard CNN say they would expect a 16+ foot wave to come ashore at Hawaii around 4:19 ET today!!! I'll be watching the news to see it and the local webcams!!! I'm sure a wave that big will cover a few statues that I took pictures at a few years ago..so easy to imagin how big they will be.JawZ wrote:A 131 foot tsunami???????????? And it's not really the height but the sheer amount of water that comes in. Trillions of gallons of water displaced all at once. I'm not sure if this classifies as a mega tsunami or not...need to research.Sava700 wrote:that's HUGE!!! This is obviously again something serious in a chain of earthquakes not normally happening...very very serious!!!![]()
Yep.. one thing is for sure, these earthquakes are coming more and more freq and more powerful!! They are stating that this 8.8 is 500x more powerful than the 7.0 that hit Haiti!!! Are we on the verge of a mega earth changing cycle of events????JawZ wrote:And it's not really the height but the sheer amount of water that comes in. More EarthQuakes
I don't care, Sava. Just report me if you think my post is out of line.Sava700 wrote:Thread Topic =
Yea CNN is covering it pretty good from two of their stations.
I sure do... can't ignore the obvious9mmprincess wrote:see?

I see people paying more attention to earthquakes because they got bored of swine flu.9mmprincess wrote:see?
Your correct.. I kept going with what CNN said instead of rewording it...still very "powerful" to say the least.YARDofSTUF wrote:It released 500x more energy.
If it were 500x more powerful it would have been a 3500 magnitude quake and earth would be gone. lol
Same here.jeremyboycool wrote:.....I can't wait until 2013.
From your article...
When asked if there is more seismic activity recently, McNutt said, "Well, yes. I think we do sense that there is a lot happening right now. I mean, I think the people at the USGS just wish we'd sort of have a break right now, with a major earthquake in January and now one in February.
"We do know that earthquakes are not completely randomly distributed in space as well as time. And this does seem to be a sort of active period. But if you look at it through the lens of geologic time, it does average out."
The Earth's plates are in constant motion, said Dr. McNutt, so seismic shifts of this magnitude are expected to happen on an irregular basis.
I know what it says.... I'm just posting it and making a comment. You don't have to be such a wiseass troll.jeremyboycool wrote:From your article...

Please don't derail the thread..thanks.jeremyboycool wrote:"You don't have to be such a wiseass troll."
I am not the troll here, Sava. You are the one who has lower to name calling.
Sorry, Sava, but I am not acting out of line here and I am not going to stop posting simply because you have a hard time dealing with someone who has a different opinion then you.
Curious, how is he derailing the thread by quoting your post?Sava700 wrote:Please don't derail the thread..thanks.
Whatever I do what I please.Sava700 wrote:Please don't derail the thread..thanks.
It is all very simple, I post completely relevant information to the thread, but yet it disagrees with Sava's expressed POV, therefor I must be a troll and derailing the thread.Humboldt wrote:Curious, how is he derailing the thread by quoting your post?

Strong Quake Hits Taiwan; Dozens Injured
6.4-Magnitude Temblor Rocks Southern Taiwan, Communications and Rail System Disrupted
Something odd is happening...A strong earthquake with magnitude 6.5 struck Friday night in the ocean southwest of Sumatra in Indonesia, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The quake, which occurred shortly after 11 p.m., was centered about 100 miles (165 kilometers) west of Bengkulu in Sumatra, and 215 miles (345 kilometers) south of Padang, Sumatra, the USGS said.
Well many seismologists are also saying the more that happen the more pressure put on the larger plates such as the ones at San Andreas that could cause the big one to be more powerful and more likely in the near future or within the next 10years!Sarahnn wrote:The more earthquakes the better. The longer the plates remain still, the more pressure is built up until something gives and a big one hits. That's why seismologists are so concerned about the San Andreas strip joint..... wait.......fault.
Makes one wonder doesn't it.Sava700 wrote:

scientists said that the monsterous earthquake that hit Chile literally changed the rotatation of the earth, it shortened the Earth day and more importantly changed the earths axis. WOW!!!
