hi,
this ramdisk is ok, but can you explain how to move the cookies to it and how to save and reload the temp internet files if logged off and on.Tried a batch file with xcopy command, it saves all on the ramdrive exept the temp inet files?
Thanks in advance.

Open IE, tools, Internet options, settings for temp. files, redirect it to the Ramdrive.

ie settings

that doesn't move cookies nor history.I did some regedits but
not enough I guess?
Do you know how to synchronize those when logging of and
load them when logging on.I've read about an image file, any idea?
Thanks alot

Eugene, Administrator of AFD tweaks! I redirected afd & tcpip's as you described.Works very fine!!! :) , the services which don't start automat. should they be set to ''on demand'' in xp device manager, hidden devices -instead of system to make them start
Does dial up needs dhcp, netbios or dns?
Do you know how to get an x121 number from ones isp tel no?
Thanks in advance,

1) there's a software available that can load the image when started up but it's shareware and you can only use it 100 times. If you want to try it out, reply and I will post a link.

2) If you read the updated Tutorial at http://www.broadbandnuts.com you will see a batch file which can load up the 2 TCP and AFD images in Ramdisk.

the dhcp ,dns clients, inet-firewall, netbios helper, ipsec Services don't start in computer management, services.Device manager's hidden recources show afd, tcpip with a yellow circle, I've tried all the diff. kind of startups eg boot, automat. demand, system. No luck.Strange thing is that those non pnplay "hidden devices" describe that they're not working well, but in the second tab the service was started! while they've this yellow mark and in computermanagement services they havent started.I've made the services to autorecover(restart themselves) with an interval of 6 min for each three times, no luck either.
In gpedit.msc I made the system wait for the network before showing desktop/logging on, they're running synchronic.

I tried to find a kind of macro which dubbelklicks them services to start them but I hope you can help here, cause its a very good tweak!!!!

Hey everyone! Merry Christmas! :D

So, I don't get something: (I THINK EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS CAREFULLY)

I disabled the ramdrive like 10 minutes ago. Uninstalled it. Drive Z is gone. I cannot access it anymore. I didn't need to reboot, it just unloaded the driver. And nothing happened.

I even moved the 2 sys files away from \systemroot\system32\drivers\ - and deleted them from the 'dllcache' folder so that WFP would not be able to reinsert them if the system searched for them on that path... still, nothing happens. I have like 7 IE windows open one of them is a download window, I'm also downloading something from an FTP I'm connected to 2 IRC networks and to ICQ... and everything works fine.

Why?

I mean if it really mattered where we stored the 2 files... if the system really needs to access them from time to time and not just loads them up into memory or caches them, if they indeed speed up broswing and other activities, shouldn't I get an error message or something? A BSOD?

Have I proven that this does not do anything? Or am I just lucky that my 466Mhz Celeron with its 256 megs of RAM and 10-12 running programs (browser windows are separate processes) doesn't swap often?

Help me here guys. I'm on Windows XP.

Windows XP Update :

Installing the Ramdisk sample driver in a NTFS only machine might make it unusable. To resolve this problem make the following change:

While you call the IoCreateDevice function (RamdiskAddDevice function in pnp.c), change the device type from FILE_DEVICE_VIRTUAL_DISK to FILE_DEVICE_DISK and recompile the driver. After you install the driver, restart the system in order to access the Ramdisk through Explorer.

Ok I followed the directions ok till I got to the part where the ramdisk don't work on xp can someone help?

OS is Windows xp pro hard disks are NTSF

More uses?

I'm running Win98SE, and I've had success with the patch with an improvement of 10-20 ms on average. I really like this Ramdisk idea so far, so would it work if I were to throw other drivers into it? What else is as commonly accessed as the TCP/IP drivers?

if your isp gives you a max speed of 500kbps ram disk cant change that speed....it's not up to ram disk, it's your internet provider who decides it

You are right it is old, but I went to another Forum and told some guys that you could load your TCP/IP in a RAMdisk and they thought I was SCREWED UP!!

ALso what is good here is the discussion factors because you can see what problems people had and how they fixed them.
