Now, is it my imagination or are natural disasters becoming more and more frequent?

I believe it's because of the increase in media coverage, increase in technology in regions that we simply would not have heard from 20 years ago, also there are a lot more seismology (earthquake detection) centers around the globe.

This is a huge event!!! The video of the waves hitting Japan are amazing!! Tossed boats around like rag dolls!!

Now the big question here is since this quake you know the crust on the Pacific plate has shifted...same one as a part of Cali. This may have a chain effect as the plate shifts!!!!!

http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/asiapcf/0 ... 1&iref=BN1
he most powerful earthquake to hit Japan in at least 100 years unleashed walls of water Friday that swept across rice fields, engulfing towns, dragging houses onto highways and tossing cars and boats like toys.

Local media reported at least 50 deaths, with more casualties feared.

And the 8.9-magnitude quake, which struck at 2:46 p.m. local time, prompted the U.S. National Weather Service to issue a tsunami warning for at least 50 countries and territories.
The quake Friday was the fifth-strongest in the world since 1900, the agency said and the most powerful to hit Japan since then.

Yeah that's going to be interesting to see the settling on the whole perimeter of that tectonic plate. And it most likely will not be right away.

Ohh I'm sure, I've not heard the morning news talk about that yet but you know it's gotta happen. They are more concerned about the wave to hit Hawaii in the next 10mins or so then head to the west coast.

My brother was scheduled to fly from Singapore to Tokyo right before this thing hit. They cancelled the flight and now he's heading home to the US.

On the news now they're saying that on the outermost Hawaii island the waves are starting to increase in size.
Typical signs of a Tsunami....some increase in size of the waves in the normal pattern, and then a slow drawback (lowering) of water on the shore...sorta like the tide going out big time..and then the big one(s).

I would think that with all the Tsunami detection/warning put out in the Pacific...we would be able to track a Tsunami..and know exactly where it is. Instead of just "guessing" or assuming that it will be hitting Hawaii. If there was one, we should know exactly where it is...and exactly when it will hit.

We do know all this info: they have detection devices all over the ocean and timed it to the min hitting hawaii. I guess the issue about damage depends on what the edge of the beach looks like and depth that could have different effects on the coast.

I can't imagin feeling that quake. I can only think of the 2012 movie and how it started with the quakes of this size!!!

They have pin pointed the source which was in deed where the plates meet for the pacific and asian plates..so that means the others will do something at some point. One guy on the news said it may cause a 9.0+ on the US west coast!!!

unlikely they should have to.. out to sea they will never detect the wave or if they do it's very minimal. I can't get a measure of how high the waves were in Japan to create all the damage it did. I'm seeing video's of waves flipping SHIPS not boats..over!

Now we have a Nuke reactor that can't be cooled!!!!! It could explode and cause radiation to cover a very very large area!!!

Check out this image!! amazing!! 2012 like!

About 4million without power and likely to not have power for weeks maybe a month with concerns of the Nuke issues and lines being down!!!

The Tsunami is getting ready to hit the west coast that could be nearly 5-6ft which could go in for miles!!!!

I guess it was just the channel I was watching.....as they were more along the lines of "the waves COULD be hitting Hawaii as early as xxxam...and COULD be hitting the northern shores of CA by XXXam". And they were saying that the waves "could be XXX feet tall"....(like from 3-6 or 7 feet..that's a big variable to me)

I'm like...instead of "could be"..shouldn't we know for a fact exactly how big and exactly when?

havent you been seeing this in your dreams, mother earth has been projecting us her vibrations for quite some time if only we would listen...just as one turns the dirt for new life so does she for us to be anew. remember your past and all is understood. this is nothing new, as above as below, there is nothing new under the sun. and just as the movie you reference 2012, for the things to come, exactly as told the masses will not know until they are in the midst. ignorance is bliss isnt it. i live on the west coast and welcome with open arms the cosmic turning of events.

Reports are a large Dam in Japan has busted and will now threaten to flood over several cities!!! All the Nuke Reactors are shut down, one of major concern that may not get started again!

Looks like all airlines are canceling all flights into Japan!! State Dept is working to get any americans out of Japan that need to get out. Obama is supposed to be on a press conference in the hour to talk about gas prices but now most of it will be about the quake! Whole cities just wiped out by 33+ft waves!!! Temps in Japan are around freeze mark with wind chills down below 30degrees so this adds to the whole event!! The video footage is just amazing to see huge buildings and ships mangled around much like in the movie 2012!!

Japan may sink into the Ocean!!! Although as much of what Frosty has said..the part where a city is underwater from a quake could be just the beginning...

Just North of here three folks went down to take pictures of the tsunami and were sucked out to sea when they were surpriised by a large wave. Two made it out but one drowned. So they went to take pictures of a tsunami and were surprised by a large wave...... brilliant

Japan is moved 8 ft!!!! Land Masses are shifting!
The powerful earthquake that unleashed a devastating tsunami Friday appears to have moved the main island of Japan by 8 feet (2.4 meters) and shifted the Earth on its axis.

"At this point, we know that one GPS station moved (8 feet), and we have seen a map from GSI (Geospatial Information Authority) in Japan showing the pattern of shift over a large area is consistent with about that much shift of the land mass," said Kenneth Hudnut, a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

Reports from the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology in Italy estimated the 8.9-magnitude quake shifted the planet on its axis by nearly 4 inches (10 centimeters).

The temblor, which struck Friday afternoon near the east coast of Japan, killed hundreds of people, caused the formation of 30-foot walls of water that swept across rice fields, engulfed entire towns, dragged houses onto highways, and tossed cars and boats like toys. Some waves reached six miles (10 kilometers) inland in Miyagi Prefecture on Japan's east coast.

It is hard for many to slow their lives down enough to reflect on the bigger picture, look at its textures and feel its expression....it almost becomes magical and brings about such a great peace in life.
