"by default" I turn mine off... never use it so don't run it. But either way I refuse to run toolbars for many reasons not just this one...as I said Google is sticking its head into just about everything that Face(Lame)book isn't.

Google is a company built up based on tracking everyone and sends a customized Ad into any browser. That is their business model, all other things are all pudding. For example, look at Youtube, everyone can upload anything they want for free, but they make their money on the targeted Ads to the user. That is the reason, the advertisers paying them money and making profit quarter after quarter in Billions.
If they don't track their users’ behavior, then the company will go out of business.
As for the turning off the Option doesn't matter. I am concern about their Browser program itself. They may have the coding to monitor the browser usage that may not know to anyone, since they don't have to give the source code to anyone. If they don't have one, it would be against their own business model on which they have built up Google.
So, if they have their own browser, they can code it anyway they want to monitor it without anyone's knowledge. It is like you tap into your own phone line by connecting a hidden recording device or a hidden camera to catch your cheating spouse. She never knows nor she can sue you if it is in your own house under your name.
Chrome makes it easy for them to collect all data and then one day Character Reporting Agency can be born like present day Credit reporting agencies. If we can monitor one person’s 6 months usage of a computer, we can clearly profile that person’s character and lifestyle to predict future behavior. Their potential clients will be employers.
I never opened a Gmail account though they give higher storage to attract people.. They use programs to look through certain key words in the email.

Google isn't doing anything new...they've just climbed to the top of the mountain. Your information is no longer private once your traffic leaves your router....that first stop to navigate is your ISPs DNS servers. Ever crack open a DNS server and see how much information is inside of there?
Software that people install from their ISP to setup their internet connection...much of that puts a BHO in your browser.
I set at a meeting table with Google ad guys almost every Thursday....am well versed with their advertising and data mining methods. But the reality is, once you're on the internet, it's happening..unless you put on the big tin foil hat and surf via anonymous proxies. I don't worry about customized ads being fed to me, I have ad block plus running at the gateway, and in my browser. So ads don't bother me....most aren't there.
It's the safest, most secure big browser out there...by milestone! The sandbox feature is smart. How are most rogues spreading these days? Exploits in Flash, Java, Adobe PDF...and last year they added a special sandbox feature to run PDF and Flash in. I've yet to see a computer get roasted by a rogue when using Chrome. I've seen the rogues blast past FF and IE. Good stuff!
One can lose sleep and bite their fingernails worrying about any bit of software on their computer mining data and sending it home....there are bigger and more legit things to deal with.

Well said YOSC, I've been using Chrome since version 3 exclusively, now on version 9, and it is by far the fastest most secure browser I have ever used. If you are worried about privacy then honestly just stay off the internet. Every browser, search engine OS etc. tracks things, that's how they make money and make things better.

You can do the best you can at the end of the day to keep your system clean and mean... But I guess for browsers I prefer FF (as of right now). Can't wait for the full version of FF 4 to release... be a nice performance and security increase.

Where?

Hello! Yesterday we ordered release candidate builds for Firefox 4, which have been duly produced and are now being validated by our QA team before we ship them to our beta audience. Once the release candidate is in the hands of our more than 3 million daily beta users, we expect to spend another period of time doing intense QA validation before ship. Please note: the release candidate represents the code we *intend to ship* as Firefox 4 - it is not yet validated and supported,
According to this and anywhere else I read there is no RC build yet for FF...soon but none yet.

yeah a update to 3.5.18 came out back on the 19th, I won't be throwing any updates on any version under FF4 since it's the most stable and secure of any past versions. No real reason to stay back considering it works better than the older versions.

I am at 3.6.18. Is that what you mean? I wont touch 4.0 until it gets its middle click fixed on bookkmarks toolbar for either folders or site solved.

There isn't a issue with 4.0, I'm not having a lick of problems with it - I bet there is something else causing your problem.

I go to a few diff hardware/software sites/forums and I don't see anyone having such issues they can't deal with with the new 4.0.

I'm willing to bet it's not a Firefox issue or it would be happening to everyone. It's most likely another app or whatever causing it...a add-on or something. If you went out and purchased a Ford Car and the tire fell off are you going to blame Ford or the guy that didn't put the tire on right?

I mean 3.5.18. I am using 3.5.17 at home now. Going to make the switch to 4.0 soon. 3.6 does not have a new update thank god.

Sava, Why cant you accept there maybe issues with firefox version 4? Nothing is perfect. 4.0 could have flaws believe it or not.

I know there are flaws with it but you have to understand that the majority of flaws are not caused by Firefox.. usually a add-on, another application, windows errors are the likely causes. You have more problems with your system than anyone that I've ever read about, not that it's your fault but don't you think it's time to simplify the whole system with a fresh format, just Win7 install and drivers then ONLY run a few applications instead of pounding the system so full of crap that you don't have a clue what is going on? I'm more than willing to help you set it up properly as are many others here - you just have to ask
