Stay tuned to the software thread to see if we have an app to speed up WUs that use a lot of ram.

has anyone else noticed them 404 pointer units that seem to take way too long to finish, i have a bunch of them lately and they really seem to cut down the weekly point tally ?

i think they are the p2106_lambda_5way_melt_4_10011 work units

You bet I have. I have one running now.

That app YoS is talking about, I'm running it but still not sure about it. Something sped up my folding on this WU, and it happened immediately after install of that app, 7MAX.

I had 6 days to completion of the current friggin frame before I installed that 7MAX, and an Oct WU finish date. Holy Crap  prolly would've been useless to keep running this WU at that speed, like 28 mins a frame. I don't care about the points, I care about getting the completed WU's turned in when they will be useful.

I just checked, it's still at 57 secs a frame but it is now using 4Mb of 7MAX- it was at 0Mb yesterday, which meant it wasn't giving any gain supposedly.
As YoS pointed out in that thread, the gain will be on the large memory intensive WU's, which is all I do. My equipment is all old junk picked stuff, so it takes me forever and a day to get a WU done.

I'm working on a post with some solid info on this app, and I'm looking at some other apps to try and find something that can speed up the processing of the WU's. As YoS said, keep an eye on that thread in software. if you feel brave and want to test out that app, just make sure you read it's help file, seems a lot of important info is not on the 7MAX web site, and only sketchy in the help file. Console version of F@H uses a different command if using w/ 7MAX.
I'll be switching to console when this WU finishes, and have a mobo on its way so I'll have this box to dedicate and play around with F@H stuff.

Ok.

It has been 25 months since I have crunched a WU and I am still ranked 113 on the team....

I am firing up two boxes - a 1.3 and a 3.0 pentium.

Somethings really thrown daily production into an irregular thing...look at each day in the week...huge differences in each days production.

WTG Sky! Welcome back to the Fold! :D

I would run through this thread for the answer but it is way too many pages and someone can probably give me a quick answer.

I am pegged at 5M memusage - I see mention of "more memory units' or the like - should I change a config option somewhere? I have plenty of ram and do not game.

 Yups!! 2106 and 2107 are BOTH nightmares for me...and it does not matter when they are on my single p4, the dualie p4's or the AMDs...none of my machines like them!

Yes....delete all current files and start up the initial setup again...this time slow down when selecting the options...you'll see a question about "allow jobs > 5 megs"...say "Yes" to that.

Anyway to get old members back crunching numbers is always good. Me I am still new to this, I like that it helps find cures. Even a small amount of CPU time helps.

I know mu wife complains about the windows version running on her machine. But I see her staring at it as it churns away. I have even seen here reading up about what's going on for the packet she's assigned. And well she's not asked me to take it off, so it's all good.

I never updated everyone, but the weekend of Easter this particular friend drove a couple hours to help me on a big weekend job that I had that Saturday. About an hour into the job (which was going to take us probably 6 hours or so) he got the call from his dad that his mom was not responding. I quickly decided to get the job to a sudden stopping point so I could get him out of there and heading home. By the time he made it home, hospice had already come to do their thing. The next morning, on Easter Sunday, she passed. :( F'n cancer.. :irate:

Kold

Hugz for your friend and his remaining family. This disease is one of the cruelest I know of...however you mentioned in your post...that this lady had been battling this disease for years. Through honest hard research, and the great effort of others...that has now become the norm rather than the exception. Advances are being made...cures and treatments are being sought...and I am so proud to be part of a team also reaching into that aspect. I do realize that I share quite a bit of pain here...with my patient advocasy...as I did earlier in another thread...I should share much more on the success stories we have had...and there have been many!! Longer term survivor rate today...cure is waiting around the corner!!

Yeah, she beat lung cancer only to have it return a year or two later and spread to the brain. :(

Thanks for all that you do MissTynker. It takes a lot of strength and compassion to do what you do and I regard your type of work as one of the most honorable deeds anyone can perform. Keep up the good work. :thumb:

ps. ooopss.. did I just "BUMP" the thread again? :D

I gotta give some bumpage for my man Ernie Johnson of TNT Sports, more specifically "Inside the NBA" with Charles Barkley, Magic Johnson, & Kenny Smith.

Ernie is battling Lymphoma and will be under going chemo treatment in late June I believe.

Just another good reason to "bump" the thread.. :D

Its been an uphill battle for me. I am gonna be dropping in production bigtime. Now that summer is here with my AC running I am gonna have to slow down a little on my personal boxes. My electric bill can't get out of hand this year. I may end up closing if things keep going like this. Its been dead for the past month.

I still have two units stuck in limbo somewhere :( , however they are still registered in queue, so hopefully they will go soon! My folding has slowed just a tad recently, as I temporarily have given up getting up in the middle of the night to send. Gathering all that extra strength for the upcoming surgery...but...I WILL go back to that..asap. Lost one folder as well...but still here!!

FOLD on team!!!
