I'm moving to an area that the only broadband available is SBC dsl. My biggest concern is when someone (SBC) tells me I have to use their software for setup. I hate that, my experience is that this software takes over your browser, email etc....They say I have to use it because of ppoe. I'm cable savvy but a dsl rookie, any workarounds? Also, my router is a netgear rp114. I have had two cable (rr & concast) networks that were basicly plug & play. Will DSL also be this simple?

Generally you need to set up using their software get your userid and password then remove it all and set up your router for pppoe.
