Something small and flexible......

A table steak knife works better than say a large meat cleaver.
The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, and prejudices to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own for the children and the children yet unborn and the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to the Twilight Zone.

Everybody is taking the Afghan war lightly, but in the meantime the realisation that a full-blown war is in progress creates all the uncertainties (and inevitable surprises) that wars always produce.

Fillet knife is good. I'd run down to K-Mart and pick up an exacto knife. Smallish razor blade at the end of an stylus. Good for precision work. Might x-acto or something like that. Just run around in the craft section, you'll find em.

Exacto makes blades that will handle a pumpkin. I have quite an assortment of differing blades.

Crazyman......we have that set in our house....

So it qualies. I'm suprised most houses don't have them. :D

I like using something I can saw with as opposed to slicing. We're talking pumpkins here. Sawing gives you more control. So serrated blades are a bit easier to control imho.

I use a small finely serrated knife and a #15 scalpel.

Me and a couple friends used a 10 pound sledge hammer back in like 7th grade, we smashed pumpkins, watermelons, and stuff like lettuce, oranges, milk cartons.....it got all over us, and we got in trouble for smashing all my friends stuff, but it was soooo much fun!

I used that pumpkin carving set that Crazyman posted....we usually just buy a new one each year, as the blades aren't of the best quality, and the cheap price.
