First build

This is my first build. I'm planning on using some parts from my customized Dell XPS400, those include:

Antec NeoPower 550W PSU
GeForce 8800GT 512MB Factory OC

for $2 more you can get a quadcore and OC it to say 3.2 - 3.6 Ghz, with a good heatsink of course.
if you run programs that can use 4 cores it is worth it IMO.
but for gaming it is not really needed i guess.

Also much cheaper 36.99$ after rebate but this ram is top notch and stays very cool with the better HS

Sticking with the C2D.

With this new CPU and ram, do you think I'll see a big improvement in games versus the Pentium D w/ DDR2 @ 667MHz?

I would stick with Gskill RAM, there would be no height issues to worry about.

Big difference? Probably not, but you should see a general usage boost, especially if you are goign from 1 or 2 gigs and multitask a lot.

For a big gaming difference its really all about the video card.

I did end up sticking with the GSkill - I saw some people having trouble with the heat pipes in the one recommended.

I believe I've got 7 inches of clearance on my chips and I'm using a normal ATX case..so no idea what someone would be doing to have height issues with those chips but ok.

Depends on case/mobo config, fan position, if theres a cpu fan duct, heatsink...

meh..well yeah I guess going with this OCZ ram you pretty much better be hard core and water cool anyway..at least thats what I do.
