Camera Memory Cards

Post by Brubbles »

Anybody know the difference between an SanDisk HC Memory card and just a regular SanDisk Memory card?

I ordered a 4.0GB SanDisk HC card and my Canon SD600 won't read it. It says "Memory Card Error".

Both of the disks (HC and non HC) say lock on the card. You can unlock it once it's in the camera?

Take it out and if it's locked you can move the little switch on the side of the memory card in the opposite direction of the arrow next to the word "lock". It's like with old 3,5" floppies' write protection.

I did that. It was unlocked before. No matter which way I put it, it still reads "Memory Card Error" :(

There are two types of SD now, SD and SDHC. Your camera must support the new standard to use SDHC cards.

I just did a quick google of your camera model and I don't see anything about SDHC support.

Check your user manual, it should say something like Storage Media: SD memory card, SDHC compliant if it is going to work.

acording to alot of revies on different sites, that camera does not support sdhc, sdhc supports up to 32gigs so it has a different memory address system,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital_card

the article says its a very small change in he host software that is needed (camer firmware) to change the addressing from 32byte reads and writes to 32 block (?)
