No Nursing With 'Distracting' Breasts At YMCA Pool

Post by knightmare »

Michigan peeps here ya go...go show your support*

Group Plans Sit In Saturday

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The lifeguards find bare breasts distracting.

That's one of the reasons officials at the Ann Arbor, Mich., YMCA said they've banned breast-feeding at the pool.

But nursing moms counter that's no excuse.

The breast-feeding mothers plan a nurse-in at the Y Saturday to protest the ban.

However, Krista Dragun, one of the protest organizers, said they'll be nursing their babies in the lobby, not the pool area. She said they want the Y to adopt a more mother-baby friendly policy for the pool.

Y officials note there's no eating or drinking allowed at the pool for anyone and nursing can be distracting for lifeguards. But they add mothers are welcome to nurse their babies in other areas of the facility.

Pointless....there is no need. Why can't they simply find a semi-private place to do this? Why do they feel it necessary to do this at the pool?......people really bug me.

Think of the increase in Memberships as some guys flock to see it at the pools .....

What ? To see some woman breast feeding?....I can't imagine most of these women are in the best of shape to begin with (kinda why they're at the Y ) and I can think of better places to gawk.

These woman got nothin' better to do than to do a "sit-in" ...

Why don't they all get together at one of their places ...all take off their shirts and breast feed away together.....

I guess I would ask...are they going to ask mothers to leave the pool area if they want to give a baby a bottle? If so, then I would say I think it is fine if they do enforce a no-food policy. If not, then that's a bogus cop-out.

quite a difference from whipping out a bottle of formula/milk than it is a big ole tittie. Again, these woman obviously have nothing better to do than bitch and moan about something.

Whipping a hooter out when the pimply faced 13 year old teenage boy is lifeguarding is a bad idea. Too distracting, and yes they will all look.

Yes, there is a big difference. The breast is much healthier. Seems to me, it's the people who bitch and moan about how someone feeds their child that need to find a better way to spend their time. If someone is uncomfortable with a nursing infant at the breast, I think that is their own problem and perhaps they should seek therapy. Telling someone they cannot nurse their child is nothing more than immature, narrow-minded, uneducated discrimination.

I think if you can't kep your eyes off a tit (that is most likely covered anyway) thean you need to grow the **** up, no emily is right you need therapy. Even at thriteen I wouldn't oggle a woman breast feeding.

Better ban all skimpy bikini's as well. Sure they will look, but I say again...that's their problem. The only part you can see is the globe, so it is not what you can see that is so upsetting to some. It is the knowing that a breast is under there and a child is nursing. You can "see" just as much in a low cut bikini.

I figured this would come out at some time.....The breast is healthie...blah blah blah ... it isn't any more healthy poolside than it is in a locker room or some other semi private place. No one said they weren't allowed to do it ... they were told to do it elsewhere. There is a time and place for everything and this just isn't it. Next!

I'm all for women breast feeding in public, but if my kid were in the pool I don't want the lifeguards distracted.

They probably have other kids in the pool. I would not trust my kid to the lifeguard that would be distracted by breast feeding, because they are going to be oggling every bikinni in the place rather than watching my kid apparently

No, it would be if you couldn't keep your eyes off a woman who was breast feeding, especially if you were a lifeguard

Thank you. You are right...people get all worked up and talk about "whipping it out" and 9 out of 10 times, all you can see is a draped blanket, towel, or the top of a shirt against the baby's face. It's the thought that makes people uncomfortable, and that is something they are going to have to deal with.

The time and place is when the child is hungry. Why should you be allowed to dictate when and where a child should be allowed to eat?

I agree, but I think the solution is with getting new lifeguards.

I don't care ....they do. You're apparently thinking it gives me the willies or something when I'm simply arguing the point made by the Y.....They can dictate it as it's their place. Why do these women feel entitled to do this?....Would they just pop it out say .... inside a restaurant at a dinner table ?....how bout in a chair at Barnes n Noble?...I mean christ buy a breast pump and put some in a bottle for times such as these.

Well, in reading your "defense" of the Y, it is pretty obvious that you DO care. Why do women feel entitled to FEED THEIR CHILD??????? Are you serious?????? Would women feed their child in a restaurant?? At Band N? Heck yeah, why shouldn't they?????????????? You obviously have no clue. Did you know that some breast fed babies will not, and some cannot take an artificial nipple? Just as some bottle fed babies cannot take the breast. The latching and suckling are two very different techniques and are not always learned easily. Any man here whose wife chose to nurse can tell you it is not always an easy thing to do. A baby has to learn and sometimes switching from bottle back to breast doesn't work. You know what...how does this sound......I am offended by all these women who feel they are ENTITLED to feed their baby crap in a can. Do you think they could please do that somewhere in private so my sensibilities won't be offended?

It distracts lifeguards, 'nuff said. The PUBLIC pool is not the place to breast feed, come on now. If your child is hungry drag your ass OUT of the PUBLIC pool and into another room where you can drape a towl over your breast while he/she feeds.

Why can't they drape a towel over them at pool side?

Why cant they just go to one of the other areas of the Y where there is no problem with breast feeding.
