Home Networking Q

Post by xfobu1ousx »

I'm new to this home networking stuff so bare with me :)
Recently I got a new laptop and DI-524..
My router is connected to cable modem (Road Runner)
laptop is connected wireless and desktop and my laptop works perfectly on internet..
however i cannot get it to see computers on workgroup!

I ran a home network wizard thing on my winxp and workgroup name is same. MSHOME... the computer name is different.. to simplify things i named desktop "desktop" and laptop "laptop".. lol
anyway i turned on the file and printer sharing for both and restarted both computers... i ran the wizard one by one..
anyway the on the desktop, i see laptop and desktop on the workgroup list but then i cannot go into the laptop!?
when i click it it says "You might not have permission to access this network resource. blahblahblah The network path was not found."
At least I see laptop on the list...
On my laptop I cannot even get into the workgroup list...
When I click "view workgroup computers" it takes about 30 seconds and it says the same thing above"

What is going on? Somebody please help me... Both computers are logged in as administrator mode.. its weird how i see laptop on my desktop but laptop can't even go into the list.. Any help is appreciated!

Os?

What OS are you running on these machines?

I had a similar problem on a Windows 2000 machine and it turned out to be the user account. I had to have the exact same user account on both machines before I could "browse" the Win2000 machine.

The wizard may have enabled the built-in XP firewall. Check to see that it is disabled on both computers if you are running Windows XP.
