P4 3.2 Appeared as 2.8

Post by cy »

Hi guys,

I just recently bought a SFF, Skyhawk IMC6375(http://www.extremeoverclocking.com/revi ... 375_1.html) and a P4 3.2Ghz chip. When I pop the chip in, it shows up as 200Mhz x 14 = 2.8Ghz. As far as i know, the 3.2's should be running @ 200Mhz x 16, however there are no settings concerning the Multiplier. I've tried reseting the CMOS, re-flash the BIOS with the latest firmware, still no luck :(

According to the manual, it supports up to 3.4Ghz, so there shouldn't be an compatability issue.

Any advice??

Thanks!

Chris

You won't be able to change the multiplier unless it's an EE (Extreme Edition) processor. The only way to get more speed out of it is by raising the FSB.

Did you look at the processor's top to see what was stamped (written) on it? Maybe you got ripped.

Nope, it's a 3.2Ghz the last time i've checked. It's a Prescott.

My guess is that the MB doesn't support 3.2Ghz Prescott yet. It mentioned support for 3.2Ghz but not specify for Prescott, only specified 2.8Ghz Prescott

:(
