Quick boot.ini question.

Post by smidley »

In windows XP, where is the boot.ini file supposed to be located on the hard drive? Is it just in the root C: drive, or is it in the windows directory? I get an error whenever I boot that says like "invalid boot.ini, resorting to c:\windows
Thanx for the info!

I think it belongs in the root.. ie c:\

Right Click on my computer select Properties then click on the advanced tab then click on Settings under Startup and Recovery then click on Edit...

Then copy and paste this over top of whatever is in there...

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

Then save it and you should be set again...
Respect it.
