Nice, hope your power bill isn't too high

Post by De Plano »

Story

Lookout if your folding on multiple machines or have a lot of kids.

Police will conduct an internal investigation into a raid at a home that was searched for marijuana because of a high electricity bill. No drugs were found.

They searched 24 homes, 20 of which were growing weed. So it sounds like they raided four peoples homes who were doing nothing wrong.

It is not worth taking away the privacy of four households to find twenty pot growers IMO

I thought of that ! when my electric bill was normally $89.00. a month and all of the sudden I got a bill for $512.00.
I was also on the tail end of the 4 month strike in so cal for grocery workers. After requesting an investigation I was told that I was under billed for 2 months, so they had to do a catch up bill ? I still do not get the math? $89.00 normally. Because I paid that amout all year.

Thats what happens when you use a lot of power? You get raided?

The apathy about the loss of privacy is scary.

So... which country is the land of the free and civil rights again? Where peoples rights and privacy are constituationally protected? I can't remember, was it Australia or Canada? ;)

On a more serious note, who cares if police wander around your house a bit and don't find anything. They're welcome here if they've got the appropiate paperwork and a good reason.

Oh that's right, they don't need the paperwork in parts of the US anymore... sorry, it's hard to break the brainwashing that's present everywhere that you're such a free and open country :)

Anyhow, I don't grow drugs, they're welcome to check that out. I don't consider that an invasion of privacy as I've got nothing to hide.

I would prefer having my home searched rather than being arrested for the sale or possession of drugs. In many countries its a he said she said situation that can land you behind bars with out the slightest proof. I don't really care for US bashing! I can honestly say that there may be nowhere else in the world I might want to live. For all it's faults, this country is like no other in terms of it's freedoms.

Ha ha... lollerberries. You really and truly believe that you've got more and better civil rights and freedoms than anyone else?

I'm curious what leads you to believe that. On one hand, I see people everywhere complaining about police and laws and politicians that no one voted for... People complaining about laws that violate basic human rights in most countries... yet on the other hand there's people that insist it's the freest and most open country anywhere?

Who's right? Are things like this thread topic lies? What about the one about not needing warrants? What about the 'patriot act'? What about the forthcoming Patriot Act II? Are these things real or not? Do they exist or are they purely imaginary?

I'm confused. Either all the people complaining have a valid point, or you really do live in paradise? Which is it?

On the topic of freedom though, I saw on the news yestersay over 50,000 prisoners in LA alone have been released early because of prison overcrowding. 1/5th of whom re-offend within three weeks. I suppose those 50,000 criminals sure think it's a free country. What about the 10,000 vicitims of those re-offenders? Are they free to? What about the over crowded prisoner population? Are they free?

Why is it your flaming me now? I stated my opinion without bashing anyone and your going to attack me? Do you live in this country or do you just merely read the propaganda written in newspapers and seen on TV? Don't bash me based on something you assume I feel. I never said this country is perfect, but where the hell do you get off putting words into my mouth?

That has happened to me before. They tend to take the average and then every so often they go get the actual readings. That is friggin annoying.
