VPN and NETBIOS name problem with win2kadvserv, can't resolve names

Post by newbie1 »

Everytime I connect to my network via VPN, i'm unable to view netbios names, and i'm unable to connect to netbios names in the wired network

everytime i want to connect to a computer in the wired network I have to type in: \\172.16.1.1

instead of \\pc1

I just checked, i can't ping netbios names in the "wired network"

I can only ping Netbios names of the clients that connect wirelessly to the wired network

Update*

I enabled netbios over tcp/ip, and still no go

Why not use DNS or (ugh) WINS? Or you could simply set static ip addresses on your LAN and then write each host:ip into your host file on each machine...
anything is possible - nothing is free

Adding to what you've done, what is running DHCP for your VPN clients? Isn't it handing out the DC's IP as DNS for any VPN clients?

Win2k ADV server is running as a DHCP server (administrative tools> DHCP)

I'm not running a DNS server

nope, my server is only 166Mhz and 256MB of RAM, if you recommend me to make it a domain controller...I'll make it one
