    8mm to DVD and VHS

Before we begin. This is not digital imagery.

I just got promoted by my wife and mother-in-law to find a way to convert 8mm film to VHS and DVD. This is way out of my league. Is there someone here that has the equipment or knowledge to do this?

If not, how about a company that specializes in this sort of thing.

What would the average price be to convert each reel?

These are old pictures of my mother-in-law and her family when she was growing up in the 50's and 60's. It's for Jen's grandfather for Christmas, a combined gift from the kids.

There is about 10 reels in total some are mini reels but they are 8mm. Please see pictures.

    Thanks!

    Thanks Indy.

Maybe I should just send the film to a company to be transfered. I would never use that equipment after the 8mm transfer to DVD or VHS.

And now that I think about it, my mom has tons of 8mm of my family when we were kids. Germany, Colorado, Philly & Annapaolis...it's all there. I just gave myself and idea.

    2 basic options.

    A) The el-cheapo way that'll cost you only a buck or two for the tape. Set up a projector in the DARKEST room you can find. Fine-tune the lens to get the sharpest picture possible, and then fine tune the focus on your video camera (turn auto-focus OFF if you can), set it up on a tripod, and record away.

    B) Pay someone else to do it. Prices will vary, as will the quality. You'll probably want to shop around and compare prices. Most will probably charge by the minute, but they may have deals if you have a decent amount of film to be transferred.

I knew SOMEONE turned MadDoc into a freak and now we know who it was!

Looks like some good info here! I'm gunna show this thread to my cousin next time she's on. She has 4 or 6 apple boxes of 8MM reels she's been trying to get me to convert

I see kinda like one of those bootleg movies found so easily on the net?

Thanks for the input. I want real good quality so I'll just have to do a little shopping around and quick too. Christmas is right around the corner.
