I buy a Hayne's or Chilton's manual for every car I own. You can find 'em at auto parts stores.

Unless Chilton's has improved in the past 5 years or so, I'd give the nod to the Hayne's manual.

Your best bet is the FSM....Field Service Manual from Volkswagen.

Yes. By all means get the shop manual if you can swing it. The third party books can be useful but they don't hold a candle to the real thing.

The shop manual would be ordered from the car dealer's parts department. If not, they can give you the publisher's 800 number. Or try the manufacturer's website.

Pep Boys, Autozone, or whatever will have the other books. The public library may also.

Hey, ghost. We're saying the same thing. It's just a matter of who hits "reply" first.

Shop manuals are PRICEY! But worth it. They detail EVERYTHING, down to order and clearance/tolerances. Give good outlines of what tools are necessary, and are quite easy to follow. I have noticed tho that the translation from Japanese to English sometimes will leave you scratching yer noggin. Dunno if a German manual will be similar, prolly so.

My Integra FSM was about 600 pages. Cost around 130 bucks(I think, mighta been 90). Worth its weight in gold IMO.

When my daughter bought her Accord in 1985, I special-ordered the manual from the dealer. I think it was $60 then. I found it pretty easy to comprehend but on the cover it said "Hoda Motor Car Company".

For my wife's '92 Taurus, the book plus wiring diagrams was $120. The diagrams are big fold-outs that you have to lay out on a tabletop.

Times change and they have more to say. For my '95 T-Bird, it's a set of big books that takes up about two feet of shelf space for about $250. It's a good read, though.

For all Volkswagen/Audi/M-B/Porsche/BMW products, THE bible is the infamous Bentley Manual:
