if anything, it prevents violence as people can do in the games what the feel like doing in real life...

    Not one bit

Think of it like this, does music cause violence? do movies cause violence? does tv cause violence? do books cause violence? do games cause violence?

I don't know why they seperate games from all the rest, cause it's all the same really...

I've been plyaing games for many years and not once has it made me want to go out on a shooting spree knockin peoples heads off

its all in how you were raised and your morals and ethics in life

I dont like people using using 'game violence' as an excuse, cause if you use that one then you have to include, music, movies and tv and books as well....

also, books are much more in detail than movies, well not all the time... but sometimes it is....

i don't think so either. however, having said that...there was a short period after UT (first one) came out i found myself walking down the street seeing ppl a couple blocks away and thinking...."Head Shot!"..."Double Kill"...etc. hmmm. perhaps i shouldn't be the one to represent "us" in the public eye.

I dont think Games promote violence.....but after playing counter strike, for like 2 hours, and getting owned by cheaters and lagers....then you might actually want to kill someone

Im not gonna get too far in this subject as its one subject I tend to be very mad about (at the media and parents)

no games dont create violence...upbringing and bad PARENTING creates violence

its PARENTS who put off their responsibilities that create violence. Just like the comlumbine parents had "no idea our son was making pipe bombs in the basement"

PARENTS NEED TO GET OFF THEIR LAZY ASS AND DO SOME PARENTING!!

see where this is going? we as a society are soo rediculous nowadays...

the person who voted yes, could you please gimme your reasons?

i would say PM me, and we will keep it confidential....

just curiosity's sake, if you do want to post it in this thread, i ask that everyone else leave him/her alone as you must understand their point of view and only state yours to counteract it...

i do not think games promote violence, but some reasons to say yes would be:

    1) you are brought into a situation where killing is the object.

    2) in your mind, killing starts to settle in as being ok.

    3) ideas of killing someone have to come from somewhere

those are just some quick thoughts on it.....

I voted "no", but would like to differentiate my answer a bit.

I think that games are not the cause for violence. Plenty of real causes have been named so far. But I do believe that the methods of killing someone can be learned by playing certain games. For example, in CS you can learn how to clear a room.

Also, I believe I read somewhere that a study has shown that people who play egoshooters a lot have a higher accuracy with real guns (even though they never used them before) than the average policeman. I don't know how much truth there is to this.

The intend to kill has nothing to do with computer games IMO, but some methods can be taught by games.
