Post Im gonna build a pc for the first time!!

my dad is getting a pc for his shop, since hes tired of:
    1. buying oems
    2. Getting ripped off
    3. buying oems

He let me order all of his stuff and let me build it! heres the specs right off the bat:

dual processor abit mobo (forgot the model, brent should know this)
    2 p3 1 ghz cpus, Zesty!
    ati radeon 32 meg
    312 megs of ram (micron)
Maxtor 40 gig 7200 rpm ata 100 hdd
    creative labs encore- Dvd-cd rom
2 golden orb fcpga fans (these look pretty cool )
    floppy
the antec s1030B case, the black case that brent has, with the 2 extra fans.

    hp cdrw burner (forgot the model) 8 x 4 x 32
    intel pro 100 btx NIC
and it will b running win2k (duh!)

I was extremely amazed at the price of everything tho, this whole pc came down to 2000 with shipping, lot less expensive then some of the oems out there...

I would like to thank brent for this tho, i would have ordered the worst parts without him, i give props to brent! thanx man!

Way cool dude! Just one tip, after you build it, tell him it's too slow for his VERY important work. Then offer to give him yours, since you are a very thoughtfull son.

right on, man. he finally recognizes your knowledge.

its a very cool thing creating a "living/breathing" object out of seemingly inanimate parts.

even reviving a seemingly "dead" assmebly of said parts has its own reward. to me its like a challenge. there have been times when i went to bed a beaten man, and there have been times when i was "king of the world".

sure eats up a lot of my spare time, lemme tell ya

    Wink

Just make sure you install two copies of folding@home on that machine, since it takes two copies to get the full advantage of a dual proc setup. That could be just what we need, a sweet dual gig p3, hehehe

    Howdy vegeto

I see your going to use Win 2000 and your dad also does a lot of
digital imaging and designing, and print business stuff..he uses photoshop and crap like that too..
312 megs of ram is quite a lot but for what he's going to do and also using Win 2000, I'd get more ram. Especially since memory is so cheap right now.

hehe, i would man, but we had a tight budget, 2000 bucks including shipping, the reason that i didnt buy more ram is because i would have gotten over the limit, i WAS gonna get a 64 meg Radeon ddr, but i couldnt do that either, i got a 32 meg radeon ddr tho, that'll work I would have bought more ram if i could tho
