What's perfect about the time or environment they live in? It seems like there's ALWAYS something big and bad happening.

wow though, did you actually read that whole thing?

i just did, read it pretty solid took me an hour...

I think i'll get that book, Shatner is very funnay in it, it's a great read...

The theories ST is based on are based on REAL theories

but some of the technologies obviously are made up as they haven't been invented yet, for example the Hiesenberg Compensator which gets around a Hiesenberg principle about beaming matter and energy or something....

But if you look though some of the tech in ST has come real

Lets look at TOS (the original series)

Talking computers and computers you talk to = voice recognition

Computer Terminals on everyone's desk in their quarters = Laptop's or Desktop Computers

    Flip Communicators = cell phones

Big View Screen = well big screens lol we have the technology for HUGE flat panel screens now

    In TNG:

PADD's = PDA's The PDA's of today are turning into small computers of their own! i.e. those PADD's they are also inputing stuff on.

Tricorders = Basically putting a lot of sensoering stuff into one small package, something which right now NASA is putting together for peple in space, it's a device which can monitor various things with sensors.

Holograms = Not quite to ST level yet, but can you see we are getting CLOSE. They already have that one device where it can create a hologram inside a sphere or something, the tech is coming for that.

So you will see a lot of ST stuff has actually, and does actually come to pass in some form.

i have heard the exact same thing

i heard that back in the TOS days he use to have a real big ego problem, always had to have center state etc...

i also heard in one TV magazine article that for that article's photoshoot they wanted him to wear a certain outfit, but he refused and said he wouldn't do it, he would only do the interview if he got to wear what he wanted to wear, and he chose a completely black outfit, heh

but yeah i've heard those same things...

but in his books he puts the funny in and acts quite jovial...

They are working on teleporters now and have had limited success. They've found out how to send but not receive.

    "Beam me up Scottie".

It's gonna happen, but I won't be around to see it.
