Microsoft begins arguments at antitrust appeal.
During a hearing Monday that could determine Microsoft's ultimate fate, an appellate court judge questioned whether the U.S. government has gone too far in trying to restrict the software company.

Visual FoxPro 7.0 Beta 2 Announcement.
Microsoft announced today that Microsoft Visual FoxPro 7.0 has entered Beta 2 and will ship earlier than expected. Beta 2 is a closed beta for Visual FoxPro developers who have worked closely with the Visual FoxPro team on previous beta versions of the product. Microsoft also announced today that Visual FoxPro 7.0 will no longer be included in the upcoming Visual Studio.NET product. Visual FoxPro will continue to be available via MSDN Subscription Services, which provide priority access to Microsoft development software, product updates, and the essential programming information necessary to develop Web Services and applications.

SpiderMiner version 1.0.7.
SpiderMiner is your own personal web spider. It scans web pages, automatically collecting and categorizing links by media type. It works based on the fact that most web sites dedicated to certain types of resources (such as music or video files) contain links to other web sites with the same or similar resources. You specify the criteria, then point SpiderMiner to a known location that contains the types of resources you want. SpiderMiner then traverses the links it finds, looking for links to other sites that have the same resources. SpiderMiner lets you view the results of your spidermining based on the categories of the resources, either in a Explorer-style view, or in a thumbnail view. By using your own web spider, you can easily find thousands of resources, many of which you won't find on the big search engines.

API Monitor version 1.5 Beta.
API Monitor is a software that monitors and displays API calls made by applications. Its a powerful tool for seeing how Windows and other applications work or tracking down problems that you have in your own
applications. For each API call made by an application, API Monitor displays the following information:

All information such as file size and whether or not a file is attached is given so that you don't have to waste your precious time downloading huge files.


New WindowBlinds Released.
Stardock has released another version of its popular Windows skinning program WindowBlinds. This version increases performance as well as allows the status bar of Windows to be skinned. Compatibility was also increased in this version. For those of you who cannot get your hands on WindowsXP, you can use WindowBlinds for the time being and get your interface to look just like Luna.

MaxxChat version 1.1.5c Beta.
MaxxChat is a toolbar-type application which provides a number of internet connectivity features. It's a full-blown IRC client with WhosOn (IRC Buddy List) notifier which is garnering rave reviews from the media. It implements both AOL Instant Messenger and ICQ functionality, allowing you to chat with friends on these services and vice versa. It's a streaming media player that plays Internet TV and Radio stations. It's an MP3 player, a web search engine, a news and stock ticker service - all tucked neatly into a thin toolbar that rests along the top edge of your screen.

Rapigator is like a Napster clone with lots of features and stuff. Rapigator uses the newest advances in filesharing technology to give you the most choices and lets you have more control over your filesharing experience.


Windows XP Interface Still In State of Flux.
According to, Microsoft has significantly reduced the default size of the toolbar and its icons from the versions shown at the Experience Music Project (EMP) event. Build 2428, the build that Microsoft belatedly gave to technical beta testers last week, contains the older, larger toolbar. Beta 2 will feature the new toolbar, which will still sport large and small icon modes, and it's already available in Microsoft's internal builds of Windows XP.

Windows Me Update for AOL subscribers using a WDM modem.
Microsoft has recently identified a major problem for AOL users running Windows Me: indeed 10-15 minutes after they get connected to the AOL network the connection can be dropped or the computer may hang if those users have a WDM (Windows Driver Model) modem (which is very current). A WDM modem comes with a device driver that is binary compatible between Microsoft Windows 95/Microsoft Windows 98 and Microsoft Windows NT. Please notice that this issue seems to affect AOL 5 as well as AOL 6.

Whistler Server RTM Slips; Beta 2 On Track.
The final release of Windows Server 2002 ("Whistler") has slipped a month or two from its original October 1 Release To Manufacturing (RTM) date to November or December....

Updated Microsoft Games Website.
I've just noticed that the Microsoft Games area of the Microsoft sprawling website has been totally revamped & redesigned. The new design is really welcome since the Microsoft Games website featured the same old design for years. Navigation is incredibly easier while flash animations add fun to the site. McAfee Beta Update.
The McAfee VirusScan v4.5.1 and McAfee Installation Designer (MID) v1.1 Beta cycles are due to begin on March 5th, 2001! This beta will run up until the 8th of May, when we ship these products worldwide. Until the Beta is available for download, please be sure to visit the VirusScan Beta website for the latest information.

Cacheman version 4.0.
Cacheman 4 is out, now with built-in Windows Me suport. Cacheman is a utility which tweaks the Disk Cache settings of Windows 95/98/ME and prevents frequent swapping of the data to hard drive resulting in an improved performance, system reaction time and even stability. Besides this Cacheman corrects also generic problems on systems with more than 512MB of RAM.

Service Pack 2 for Windows 2000 at RC2.
Service Pack 2 for Windows 2000 is at Release Candidate 2 sporting the build number RC2.124. Tester's were able to download this update today for immediate testing, it came in the form of an express upgrade weighing in at around 500kb all the files needed are downloaded from Microsoft's beta servers.
