My b-day is going to be a disaster

Yesterday at about 11:30pm. My mom and I where still up. I then hear pounding and the front door opening and closing. I then hear people talking. I thought there was a robbery. Than I hear them saying are you feeling any pains. My dad then answered “yes”. I then got nervous I was in my bed room. Must have got woken up by then sirens. The next day I wake up and my mom says “Hey you know what happed to your dad"?
    I said” no”.
She said “he had chest pains and the ambulance came over and took him away". I than just went and got my normal bowl of cereal and took a shower, did my normal weekend laundry. I thought it wasn’t too severe. I than get a phone call around 3:00pm. It was my dad he sounded good. Then at around 7:30pm my aunt took my mom and me to the hospital. I sat there sad and hoping my dad will live. I just sit there listening to what every one is saying. My dads talking about splints, Bypass surgery, and some other things. I’m still clueless of what happened to my dad. My dad says I know what did it to and stares at my mom. I knew what he was talking about. My mom smokes about 2 packs a day. Sometimes I feel a pain in my right upper chest and when I run or am active a lot I get a pain in my lower right lung. I know that it’s my mom’s cigarettes doing this to me and my dad. I then come home at around 10:30Pm. I then hear my mom talking on the phone and say “He had a heart attack”. I’m so worried that my dad may pass away. And guess what about 5 days from my birthday I hope he’s home before my birthday. I thought my 15th was going to be the greatest birthday ever.

    sorry for the grammer

dude first...why didnt you get up when you heard all the commotion (I would have)?

and second...he had a heart atack....which generally has nothing to do with smoking. or second hand smoke. A heart attack is caused by lack of exercise, stress, bad eating habits etc. Smoking is just a factor.

and trust me...just because your mom smokes 2 packs a day...it isnt killing your whole family. My mom smoked my whole life and I dont have those problems. she quit a lil bit ago though.....second hand smoke is bad...but still first hand smoke, is hands down...THE worst out of smoking..lol...its not the ciggarettes...STOP BLAMING THE CIGGARETTES!!

it sounds like he will have bypass surgery which will take a piece of artery (sp?) from your dads leg and place it on an artery on your dads heart...basically it will "bypass" an area of the artery which is blocked by cholesterol and fatty buildups..if he has a splint put in his artery it will be something to keep the artery OPEN so that it doesnt get clogged again...however where the first one is a bigger procedure I would still go with bypass surgery as it will probably be better for him in the long run....

and if you have questions about anything ask the doctor...thats what hes there for..

sorry to hear that christopher. Try not to get caught up too much in the blame game. Whats important is making sure you're dad gets better. getting caught up with why it happened right now is not going to be productive for him or anyone else. Sounds like if he was immediately blaming someone that his stress levels may have had something to do with it.

Hang in there, and like I said don't worry about the cause right now. Just do what you can to help out.

give a shout if you need to talk about stuff.

yeah listen to him...stress is the number one factor in a heart attack case...

you just need to realize that at this point your dad is sick and its not time to blame someone but focus at helping your dad get better. I trust the doctors will take care of him without a problem.

and dont worry about him passing away...if hes come this far, then almost definately he will live....the doctors seem like they already have a plan for him...listen VERY carefully to what everyone is saying...it might help you understand more about what is going on.

    Goodluck

    Hi Christopher561

Sorry to hear about your Dad.

The good news is they have come a long way in treating Heart attacks. The odds are very good for a full recovery.

A change in his lifestyle will also help i'm sure.

Looking to your Mother's smoking as a cause is not something either of you should be doing.

We all know smoking is not a good thing for many reasons, but as to being the cause of the heart attack is doubtful.

A very good Heart Specialist once told me that most heart attacks can be related to something dramatic happening in your life 5 to 7 years prior to the attack itself.

Loss of a loved one, job loss, divorce, money problems etc.

Usually something that causes one to change his habits or lifestyle and invokes stress at a high level.

Your Dad might try looking back to see what if anything happened during those years.

Help wherever you can to make life easier for both your Mom and Dad and remember these things take time and involve a lot of stress all around.

    Good Luck to Your Family

    regards

    Good morning Christopher561,
First off, I wish the best for your Dad, Having had A brain attack (stroke) myself 6 weeks ago, I can assure you that modern medicine is marvelous and with todays dianostic methods, your Dad will be up and around in no time..

What you will have to do, is be helpful and supportive, but more then that, you may have to help your Dad adjust to a new life style, I know I had a hard time adjusting to new diets, excercize, no smoking, limited alcohol intake, and most important not forgetting to take my 6 different pills a day..(I call them my life line)

Hoping for the best and saying a prayer for you and yours.

thank you all he hasnt called yet today. He will probaly call a little bit later. Il keep you up to date of what is happening if hes gonna go with the bypass or the splint. My main question is that will him and i be able to ride that bike train i talked about in my first post.

Edit: I just talked to my dad he sounded a little drowsy, I think he went in for the testing and the picture of the heart. He said he was ok. so thats good news.
