dsl Download speed w/ xp home

Hi all- I just starting running xp and my dsl download speed has

decreased majorly. Before I was running a pIII 500 with

win98se, now I have an AMD2000, 512 mb sdram, running xp home.

I've checked out the xp tweaks on the sg home page, but they all

seem to apply to xp pro only.

MSN is my provider, I used to get DL speeds ~80k/sec, now they avg around 15k/sec regardless of time of day.

    Any advice would help, thanks

    Alright, this is unreal.

I've completed the QoS fix, and every speed test I do gives me results in in the 516kbps down/ 215kbps up range, but when I actually DL a file I STILL never get speeds above 20kbps
    grrr......

Actuall downloads will vary depending on the server you are getting it from. Perhaps it was a slow server?

    Hey Loch-Nar
It seems you have DSl with PPPoe..right?
If that is the case, go to click ... there you can download a file called DRTCP...use it to tweak your PPPoE settings.
The PPPoE MTU should not be more than 1492 (some use 1472 or 1454), as opposed to TCP/IP with is 1500. In XP it defaults to 1480.
Other settings that should be changed is Windows Scaling and Timestamping with a TTL of 128.
Also go here for all the information on PPPoE and DSL settings.
    Good Luck
