    Fan Recommendation

I currently am using the stock heat sink and fan that came with my Retail Athlon XP1600.

If I wanted to swap out the stock fan for a more powerfull fan, what would you recommend?

    Thanks
    Jon

Well, if you're going to be oc'ing it I would look into a good fan/heatsink combo.

    You could start at

Just remember to check out the noise level. Higher performance fans usually mean an increase in sound and this may not be a desirable effect.

I'm using a ThermalRight SK6 with a 4500rpm fan (the 7000rpm was too loud for me and I'm not oc'ing). And it does the job for me.

I am using the fan that is in my sig.
I think its a good all around hsf.
One suggestion is that whatever you buy I think you should look for clips instead of screws. Alpha makes a great heatsink but its not worth the time taking out the mobo and screwing it. I would suggest using the hsf with clips for easy installation. Also get some artic silver II its better then the regular grease coming with the hsf.

Well you have to options here

then then more options after that! BUt really what it comes down to, do you want a less expensive but louder clip based heatsink or a four hole mount heatsink with a quiet fan and performs better (But is expensive)?

I don't recommend keeping the stock fan and or the the heatsink, no very good to begin with.

Unless you are overclocking, the one you have should be just fine.
