Thread: Feature you wish your web browser had?

Smile Feature you wish your web browser had?

I wish the web browser wouldn't allow pop-up webpages without warning you first. I know that netscape and micro$oft could put that type of feature in their browser, but the do not because of all the advertising companies would have a $hit fit.

    Have a nice day!!!

I wish my browser does not support any kind of pop ups!

Ie should block all this.. it won't allow stupid things to come in.. it won't allow them to change my homepage.. it won't allow them to add stupid crap to my favs...

if the ie does all that.. it'll be safe surfin for all!

I don't know what IE browser you guys are using, but all the versions I have seen lately can stop popups and can stop web sites from altering your home page too.

It's all in how you configure the options available in IE.
I don't see any popups or have any problems with websites running scripts on my PC.

You can download programs to take care of these pesky problems, or you can go into the IE options and set 'active scripting' to 'disabled', or 'prompt'.

There are also options for trusted sites where you can allow 'active scripting' on the sites you trust.
Do some reading, and learn about what is already on your machines.

I'm for the No Pop Up Ad thing, I hate that.

The one other feature I want the browser to have is for IE not to be tied into explorer.exe so when it crashes it won't bring the whole OS down with it lol

    Norm,

If you disable active scripting, then any websites you surf, with a script written in the page ( which is most of the websites now-a-days) would either prompt that a script is written in the page or disable parts of the webpage. Neither of which makes surfing any fun...

I am interested in how you can disable pop up ads through the web browser without using a software running in the background (such as pop up killer). The reason I ask is because pop up killer tends to kill "winders OS" instead of the pop ups in my testing.

    Thanks for the reply.

    Cool

    Hi Brent

I have been using this for months and it works great, however i run 98SE.

    IEradicator 2001 NEW!!
Removes all versions of Internet Explorer from all versions of Windows 9x in 8 different languages! - INSANE!!

Not for use with Windows 2000sr2 or Windows XP

Tiny in stature, but packs a whollop!
IEradicator is tiny, script that uses the Windows setup engine to surgically remove Internet Explorer versions 3 through 6.0 from Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Millennium and Windows 2000(sr1).

I use this one and no problems and it works great, Freebie

Pop-Up Stopper FREE Version supports both Internet Explorer and Netscape 4.x browsers, and is located below the Pro version on this page..

Opera 6.0 stops all pop up..it's a built in feature.

Minir, Just drag and drop any hyper link into the links bar on your browser...there you go...all done.

    Cool

    Hi uod2001

    Thanks uod2001.

I just felt that most people have 2 or more Favorites and that it would be easy for them to include a button for those on the Tool Bar, so you could click on and go to whichever one you chose easily.

One can configure just about anything if you wish to, but it crossed my mind (Short Trip) as soon as i got a comp. that it was something that might have been included.

However there are probably a million worthy ideas out there that could be done.

    Thanks again uod2001

    like this?

I'm on my Dads comp right now but I think this could work for you.
You can even rename them to whatever you want and that will easily shorten the space they take up!

Not a button but close enough....happy surfing

You can add folders to the links at the top of IE too.

In effect making more than one Favorites folder.

Easy access to your favorites, and can be named as you wish.

There is a folder in C:\windows\Favorites called Links. It is that folder that appears in IE as Links at the top of the page.

You can make new folders in the links dir in C:\windows\Favorites, and they will appear in IE

See pic to view what I mean.

Disable 'active scripting' in the 'Internet Zone', and add any sites you want scripting to work in the 'Trusted Sites' zone.
When you're in the 'Trusted Sites' section and add a site, uncheck the box that says "Require server verification (https) for all sites in this zone"

Doing the above will stop all popups, and scripting from sites other than the ones you trust.
While surfing the net it is advisable to have 'active scripting' disabled. You won't miss much, just popups and interference with your PC.
Some sites (like forums, banking, MS update etc) need 'active scripting' to work as they were designed to. Add those to your 'trusted sites'

    Anytime minir

You're on my highest priority list.

Personally I don't like installing programs when what I already have can do the job.

Windows works much better when program installs are kept to a minimal.

I was going to post a link to that thread, but the SG search results for "bullsh|t" were too numerous

sometimes you have to think outside the box to get inside the box .
