    Set this rumor straight

    my older bro was tottaly convinced that with certain tweaking etc, that u can turn a normal cd-rw drive into a dvd-rom drive. sounds like bolgna to me, but just making sure.

    No, and NO! The laser wave length is different for DVD's. Smaller "pitch" if you will. Ask Deus Ex Machina, he really knows his DVD stuff.

    That's impossible. Software can't do that, you're missing the hardware. Maybe he might get it to write DVD's but only up to 700MB which would be a waste, I dunno. It's like writing a LS-120 disk with a floppy drive.

    of course you can. they're the same size, so simply change ALL the internal components with a dvd player.
