Question mobo question from a n00b....

    hey all-
I've been lurking here for a just a few days, trying to read up a bit.
as you can see, I'm currently trapped in OEM hell and am looking to affordably upgrade my CPU/mobo and am pretty much set on going AMD.

Does anyone have any opinions on the AbitKG7 with an AthlonXP 1500? I've found a decent combo deal ($250US, fan included) and am seriously considering it. For about 40 bux more i can get the KG7-RAID, but thats pushing my budget, considering I need RAM and a new Power Supply.

    Thanks for any advice !!!!

    Jack

oops, heres my current system specs:
    DELL Dimension XPST500, 256MBPC133 RAM, Maxtor60GB, Maxtor12GB, RIVA TNT2 32MB....uh, what else

Push your budget a bit more and get the KG7 RAID. I have that board and I like it so much, I bought another one and used it to build a pc for my dad for Christmas.

The extra IDE channels are nice to have. It's one of the few boards where you can use the raid channels and not have to have a raid set-up. This way you will be able to get all of your IDE devices (cd-rom, hard drive) each on their own channel as a master.

yeah, heatsink/fan. the included one is a generic Cooler Master, but for $22US I can upgrad to a ThermalTake Volcano 5 HD HS/fan.
