    NTFS vs Fat32

I have a Compaq, that came with Windows XP installed. The HD is NTFS. I want to remove XP and put 98se on it. Anyone know how I can format the HD and change it back to FAT32? I have tried to use a 98 bootdisk and then fdisk, but the computer freezes. Any suggestions on a quick way to do this?

    -Thanks

Get a program called Partition Magic and it will do it for you without any troubles... some may argue, I dont know why.... those fdisk freaks!!

There's a fantastic utility for blowing away partitions that are stubborn...called delpart

Partition Magic....I love it, but not everyone feels like buying it. Some partitions, depending on how/what they were made with, can be stubborn. I've seen trusty Win98 boot disks, with their versions of fdisk, not be able to blow away non-dos partitions like NTFS...yet go find an old Win95 boot disk....and no problems.

I've yet to see delpart fail me on the stubborn ones...will blow through anything. Just type it in your favorite search engine, you'll find a ton of links. Always good ol' www.bootdisk.com also.

    98 boot disk, http://www.bootdisk.com

fdisk/remove HPFS partition, reboot, fidisk/create partition. You don't need any thrd party apps.

Here's a guide on Fdisk, http://radified.com/Doc/fdisk.htm. The site says you cant remove NTFS partition's using fdisk but I have, it just shows up as a HPFS partition.
