    can someone help a newbie?

    hi, i just stumbled upon speedguide.net today looking for an answer to my slow download times. i downloaded the patches and tweaks for win2k and reseted the comp, but didnt notice any difference. my download times are ususally 20kbs- 60kbs on my verizon dsl. i'm also connected to a router b/c 3 other people are sharing this connection. Does anyone know what the problem is? or is this normal?
    thanks for any help.

    Welcome to Speed Guide. Take the SG TCP/IP Analyzer test located at the top of the forum and post the results here in a reply to this thread. Also please post what your service is capped at if you know it and what OS you're running.

    is this is? my os is win2k.

    TCP properties for IP = 141.153.241.115 ()
    Note: Read the FAQ if the above is not your IP address.
    Browser/OS = Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; Windows NT 5.0; NJIT01)

    TCP options string = 020405780103030201010402

    MTU = 1440
    MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput.

    MSS = 1400
    Maximum useful data in each packet = 1400, which is equal to MSS.
    MSS is not fully optimized for broadband (although it might work well for slower connections). Consider increasing your MTU value.

    Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 256960
    RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 2 bits
    Unscaled Receive Window = 64240
    For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
    Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
    515200 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 8)
    257600 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 4)
    128800 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 2)
    64400 (MSS x 46)

    bandwidth * delay product:
    Your RcvWindow limits you to: 10278.4 kbps (1284.8 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
    Your RcvWindow limits you to: 4111.36 kbps (513.92 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

    MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

    Time to live left = 47 hops
    TTL value is ok.

    Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

    Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

    IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

    9090 connections tested since 03.10.2001.

    Lightbulb

    Download Cablenut or follow the instructions in Advance Registry tweaks on this page. You should set your MTU to 1492 and RWin to 255552 and Scale ON. Try that first and post back here with your results.
