    Sblive replacement..

ok, My dad has an sblive value, and a vp6 mobo, which runs on the via 686b.

Now, i need to seriously trash this sound card, but i dont know any good cheap solutions that will actually run good!

Anyone know any good ones that aren't that expensive?

I like my philips rythmic for $30. The newer versions might have four channels, I only have and needed 2.

I've used it in win98se, win2k pro and winXP. In win98se and win2k it worked perfect! Sometimes in winXP, it seems to act wierd when playing max payne. I'm not sure though if it was max payne or if it was the drivers?

The only problem I've had is that you really souldnt use the drivers on the disk. Download the newer ones and you'll be very happy for the price. Also, when you install the drivers; read the instructions.

That's it, I still like it after a couple of months.

    That's a good one

I was actually considering the Philips RE, but unfortunately for me, they don't sell that here in Canada. So I went with the Sound Blaster PCI-128, why? First of all I saw that my favourite gaming place was using them because they told me that had the least amount of imcopatiblity issues (Close to none, never had any problems with mine, check my sig for stats.) Secondly, it's great for a cheap PCI card, it has support for the older 16bit DOS games and what not.

It was about $38CAD and is probably about like $30CAD, which is like less then $20USD. It's a contender if your going for a cheap card with the least imcompatibility issues and most performance.

BTW:I've had this card for about 2 months now.

I know it's hard to believe, but the DAC in the 128 card is better than the DAC in the Live card. It can be had for peanuts also.

The live is a resource hog when it comes to using cpu cycles in cases of more than 16 voice channels(?) in game.
