if you have an aol account, and you delete it, will you still have the aim account?

my dad is about to cancel our AOL account because he says it cost alot of money and its slow, anyway we still have @home, but i still want my AIM screen name, and it was from an aol account, my question is, if i cancel or delete my aol account, will my aim account still work and still be registered to me?

If you have the AIM Name right now, if you canceled im pretty sure you can still keep it.

ok great i deleted my aol account and im able to use it on aim, but another question rises up.....

after the six months have passed after deleting a screen name, you cant restore it on AOL, can someone else register that screen name on aol even though thats my screen name on aim?

    or

can someone take my aim screen name and register it on aol, thus stealing my aim screen name account?

Thankfully I arrived in time! The aol guru is here!

Oh, that was silly. Anywho, I have answers to your questions. In my experience, even if an aol screen name was deleted; I could still access it through AIM. If you have trouble believing it want to make sure, because my information is a little old from expereince; then simply delete one of your screen names and see if you can log onto to through AIM. There will be your proof.

So, your dad says AOL is expensive if you have cable? Well, either he is misdirecting information or he is just plain silly. If you have your own internet service connection(like cable) then you can join the BYOA plan. That stands for bring your own access, and only costs $10 a month. Have him go to keyword: billing. He will be able to do two things here. First of all, look at a detailed bill for last month. YOu'll be able to see how mnay minutes you spend on aol last month. Divide this out and you'll be amazed how cheap aol really is for how much time you spend there. You can either change your billing plan to byoa there, or call an aol customer support specialist.

Any other AOL questions, PM me since I dont spend very much time in the software forum. I'll probably be able to answer them since i've been with aol since '94.

I've been on AOL since around '94 also and I can tell you this...get away from AOL as soon as you can!

I'm finally with @home and you'd be crazy to even pay AOL the $9.95. AOL even slows down my 'blazing' cable modem.

Just use AIM like you are planning to and try to put the ugly memory of AOL out of your mind!
