    Linux Problem. RedHat V 7.1

I've done a complete install. Every stinkin' thing. HOWEVER, I cannot get on the internet (Don't think it sees my winmodem or NIC card), and I can't use my CD-ROM. This is a laptop computer... Dell Inspiron 5000e, DVD-ROM, LT winmodem, Netgear ethernet... How can I get support for the devices I have mentioned?

Linux normally will not work with a winmodem, I use Mandrake 8.0 and it is almost like installing Windoze, everything is automatic. Mandrake is an enhanced Red Hat btw.

Mandrake developers claim that they've enhanced RedHat. Not true, they've bloated Redhat.

They simply took RedHat pacakges that are compiled for 386 machines and re-compiled to work with Pentium class machines. This is what the Mandrake developpers call enhancement.
The core of Mandrake is still RedHat system and will always will be un-less Mandrake re-invents itself.

The WinModem will not work with Linux unless it has a Lucent chipset.

Only certain models of NetGear NICs work with the Linux kernel. For more information search The Linux Network Drivers home page.

Take a look at LinuxConf, see if you can configure your network through that.

Also, does your user have the proper permissions to access the DVD ROM? Can Linux even use DVD drivers?

I found Linux conf. grr, turns out I was wrong. It isn't my NIC card. That's fine. I am routing wrong, or somethigna long those lines.

No clue what you want for service, but I'm guessing proxy (WinProxy).

    Settings:
    IP: Edited out
    Netmask:255.255.255.0
    Gateway:192.168.0.1
    Primary nameserver: 192.168.0.1
