Hey everyone! This is my first post to the forum, I am learning a lot from you guys, thanks!
I am having some problems with tweaking my settings in Windows XP RC1. For some reason, I cannot get my RWIN over 65535, even with tcp13230opts set to "1". I am also having some pretty slow speeds after installing RC1, I normally have a pretty quick cable connection. I have installed the cablenut patch with the win2k fast options.
Here are my results for the TCP/IP analyzer:
TCP options string = 020405b40101010101010402
MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.
MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.
Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 65535
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 65535
Note: Under Windows 9x, if you have RWIN set to any other value, and the Analyzer reports 65535 you might need to install the MS Vtcp386 fix.
For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)
bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 2621.4 kbps (327.675 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1048.56 kbps (131.07 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 30 hops
TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000
How in world do I go about changing the RWIN to something higher? I have heard about this being a problem under win98, but not winxp. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also can someone recommend a good RWIN setting?

caffeinefizz, you can use the search function and see we have had this problem before, if the copy was not bought from Microsoft
the RWIN will not go any higher than 65535, no matter what you do, we have tryed and tryed, so in the end set it to 64240, sorry
Thanks for the interesting info - I have tried the suggested tweaks but with no improvement - RWIN =513920 worked best as a tweak. They work on my W2K though.
I don't understand what you mean by "bought from Microsoft"? The copy of RC1 that I have installed was one I downloaded from their $9.95 preview program. Shouldn't that count as being purchased from them?
Also, my dual boot copy of Win ME is also having the same problems with the RWIN, it too cannot get above 65535, even after a format and clean install.
I have no clue what the problem may be, but something sure isn't right!

Try setting box in Cablenuts adjuster that says Tcp1323Opts to 1 to allow scalling
In ME and XP, even if their is a 1 in box, save to registry at bottom and REBOOT, no 386th Fix for ME or XP
If this does not work, call Microsoft
On Cablenuts adjuster at top click on options, select OS, do this for ME as well as XP. XP select W2k
If the right OS was not selected click after selecting right one at bottom save to registry and REBOOT
you say that your rwin can not go higher than 65535 in win xp?
well i am running windows xp a version which i downloaded off the net and my rwin is a bit higher than that.

but you know i am pretty new at this and i could be wrong about that rwin thing. if i am sorry about that

No yours looks higher, all im saying is some of them will not get above 65535 no matter what we do, contact Microshaft for answer, some work, some don't
this is what I got, WinXP RC1, linksys LNX100 ver.4.1 -> lynksys 4 port cable router
TCP options string = 0204059c0103030201010402
MTU = 1476
MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput. If you are using a router, it could be limiting your MTU regardless of Registry settings.
MSS = 1436
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1436, which is equal to MSS.
MSS is not fully optimized for broadband (although it might work well for slower connections). Consider increasing your MTU value.
Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 256960
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 2 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 64240
For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
505472 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
252736 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
126368 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
63184 (MSS x 44)
bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 10278.4 kbps (1284.8 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 4111.36 kbps (513.92 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
By going to the patch page and downloading the patch that suits your system.
I couldn't get my RWIN over 65535 neither... not that I ever go higher than that anyway. I have mine set at 18876
The only thing I couldn't change was the MTU value Stood stuck at 1400... I never tried the TunnelMode trick... darn! Oh well, it's too slow anyway! Right, Lobo? heheeh
