    Registry values

I have tried your TCP/IP analyzer and it reports values which are different than the ones REGEDIT shows.
    Ex: REGEDIT Value ANALYZER Value
    MTU 1500 1476
    RWIN 32768 8616

ALso I use Linksys as a router and the analyzer says that the MTU is limitted by it. Could you clarify and offer advise?
    Thanks, SAC1

Thanks for the quick reply. I checked the Linksys firmware and I don't think it applies. Also it does not explain the different RWIN reported value.

Please click in my signature where it says Test your tweak here, then:
At top where it says edit click and select, Select all,
Then go back to same edit button at top, click and select copy.
Come back to Speedguide, same thread you were on, in post reply box, with cursor blinking at begining of box go to top, edit, click, select paste, click, this will put information in box. Please X out your IP address, Thank you.
Please include OS & system specs in your reply

    SpeedGuide.net TCP/IP Analyzer
TCP properties for IP = xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Note: Read the FAQ if the above is not your IP address.
    Browser/OS = Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.0; Windows 98; DigExt; MSNIA)

    TCP options string = 0204059c01010402

    MTU = 1476
MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput. If you are using a router, it could be limiting your MTU regardless of Registry settings.

    MSS = 1436
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1436, which is equal to MSS.
MSS is not fully optimized for broadband (although it might work well for slower connections). Consider increasing your MTU value.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 8616
    RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
    Unscaled Receive Window = 8616
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
    505472 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
    252736 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
    126368 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
    63184 (MSS x 44)

    bandwidth * delay product:
    Your RcvWindow limits you to: 344.64 kbps (43.08 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
    Your RcvWindow limits you to: 137.856 kbps (17.232 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
Consider increasing your RWIN value to optimize TCP/IP for broadband.

    MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = OFF

Time to live left = 52 hops
    TTL value is ok.

    Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

    Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

    763725 connections tested since 03.10.2001.
    Analyzer version: Beta 0.99

    Lobo,
I have read with interest your stuff on Cablenuts and other things. I didn't know what Cablenuts was :-)
My original question still remains open:
Why is there a difference between the values in the registry as reported bu REGEDIT and the Analyzer?
    Thanks, SAC1

Your router is causing the MTU thing, what firmware are you using
and 2nd after you change value in registry you must reboot right then or it goes back to default

Thanks for staying with me on this issue.
My firmware is 1.37 dated 01/03/01 and the values in the Registry are a couple of weeks old. The computer has been rebooted.

The lastest firmware for Linksys is 1.38.5 that is not in beta
I would follow directions on help page below to get RWIN right

    Lobo,
Thanks for your help. I downloaded Cablenut and installed the cable router defaults. All is reported fine but the MTU is left blank.
Should I set it to 1500 and I couldn't find 1.38.5 firmware for Lyinsys. Do you think it would "allow" the 1500 value?
