That's a very strange Abit board. First, notice that it only has 5 pci slots. I might be mistaken, but i thought my abit kt7a has 6. It also has that silly amr slot instead of a isa slot. The wierdest thing about it though is the northbridge. It's not only straght, it's missing a fan. Is the the feature layout of the abit boards?

i wish manufacturers would totally get rid of all the older(legacy?) components isa, ps/2, serial, parallel. maybe not on all of their boards but like release line of "future technology" boards.

Hi! Thank god for ISA slots. I know they can make a southbridge run a little bit slower and a tiny bit more unstable, but without it I'd have no soundcard! Two more questions. Why get rid of the parrel port? I know USB is faster, but how much faster for a printer. I also know that a lot of people have had trouble using an epson printer on USB. Get rid of a ps/2? Wait... okay I suppose that makes sense since a usb mouse is faster then a px/2 right?

well, how many other products use the parallel port besides the printer? i can only think of a few, fill in the rest but its just the same. who would buy devices that use this tech when a faster/better and moderately priced alternatives exist? only reason i can think of is said person is a cheap bastard and does not care about performance issues.

why not make a line of boards that do not include these components? theyll be making their way out sooner or later, like the isa slot.
as for your situation having an isa slot is beneficial, great. hell, i use an isa NIC but im talking about new boards, wouldnt you rather have a pci slot there instead of the isa? if it werent for my zip drive and ps/2 keyboard i wouldnt use any of those ports. (bought the parallel zip drive in my less enlightened days, the keyboard is free and works well enough)
the fact that this idea isnt completely out of reach it would be awesome to see manufacturers cater to this idea.

Unless my eyes are going, there are 6 PCI slots. The last one is shared. Also, not having a fan on the Northbridge isn't that big of a deal. My KA7-100 doesn't have one either.
One thing I DO like about that board is they finally got the resistors around the CPU farther away and mostly on one side. Should be easier to get big fans on the CPU.

Simply run adaware, spybot, ZoneAlarm, HijackThis, AVG, update windows daily, have a router, don't open e-mail, turn off action scripting, don't use P2P networks, don't violate EULAs, and wear a condom to get Windows secured.

i don't know the specs on this board, like what chipset or socket platform it's using......
and older Abit boards do not have a fan on the northbridge, all i've owned is abit boards
and there are 6 PCI slots from my counting.....

ya know, one thing that bugs me about my KT7A-RAID is how the DIMM latches tend to be obstructed by any sizable AGP card. the latches can still be opened far enough to pull the DIMM out, but its still a pain to reach in there with man-sized fingers and fumble with them. i guess if you have small girlish hands it would be less of a problem. looks like this white board has that problem as well.
