    Post 500 beats 600 ???

    Can someone explain this ??

Just added a celeron 500 to the folding mix, and for some reason it smokes my desktop.

The desktop is a PIII-600 with 512MB RAM
The laptop is a Celeron 500 with 192MB RAM

The celeron outdoes the PIII by about a 3-1 ratio, is this a sign that there is something wrong with my desktop ?? The laptop is brand new, while the desktop is just over a year old.

Do you have alot of programs running on the 600 andonly Folding running on the 500? The Folding client uses unused cycles. So if the 600 has alot of programs running or a couple that are huge CPU hogs. It will run slower than a machine that has alot of unused cycles.

That is a big diffenrence betweent the two machines. Not sure if that should make that much of a difference. I dont use Norton's at all, but I have heard that it uses alot of resources. Since your desktop is a PIII-600 I believe that they both would have a 100 FSB. Maybe someone else hear would know a little better about it. Sorry I couldn't give you anything concrete.

    just call me stupid

    "HEY STUPID"

i installed version 1.34 on the laptop, the desktop still had either 1.32 or 1.33 (not even 1.33b)

now the desktop manages to slightly stay ahead of the laptop...either way many more folding units last few days
