Sounds like a good practical eloquent solution... I would have probably just created some type of log file with timestamps and actions, being written into as in that "queue".
As I've mentioned for years, he wrote most of the software we use and can tweak it or write new programs as needed.
2 time Microsoft MVP.
Ongoing issue for 20 years I've been there of orders being received and verified but never actually "check in" and added to our inventory.
Plays havoc with inventory, product doesn't show as in stock online, f*cks with bookkeeping, etc...
3AM idea a few nights ago.
Basically, we have an inventory program he wrote 40 years ago, tweaked ever since.
It can build an order we send to a supplier.
When the order is received we create a check-in sheet according to what they say they sent.
Print that, employee verifies and notes errors, we adjust the final check-in taking those into account, click the "check-in" button that adds the products and value to our inventory.
Problem is one employee who will receive the check-in sheet from an employee, scan it and the invoice, shred them, but never click the damn last button.
We're talking 7 orders in the past 2 weeks.
I asked if when the "print check sheet" button is clicked that supplier could get shifted to a queue.
When the "check in" button is clicked, it gets removed.
That queue could be viewed at any time.
Within 90 minutes he created a new Access table with all the info and tweaked the inventory program to write to it.
See what happens but super simple fix that he made work ASAP!

Linux is user friendly, it's just picky about its friends...

Works like a charm. F*cking awesome.
And we don't do anything new, it just works in the background with the same 2 buttons we've always used, just a new way to look at it.
