Can I throw away my Firewire cables?

Can I assume that Firewire is dead? Can I just throw away these old cables or can they be repurposed? I have no hardware that is compatible.

FireWire was faster than USB back at one point.. It's pretty much been obsoleted though.

I still have an old DV Sony Digital videocam that only had FireWire output... I used it to convert videos to digital format at some point, but haven't touched in in 5+ years.
I think there is even a way to convert old VHS by hooking it up through a camcorder (to be used as analog to digital converter), and then to a PC with Firewire...

If you don't have a use for it, and don't like tinkering with electronics and soldering irons, it is pretty safe to just toss them I guess.
Linux is user friendly, it's just picky about its friends...

I think they're going in the trash. Anything I need converted can just be sent out to some service.

People will forget what you said... and people will forget what you did... but people will never forget how you made them feel.
