Video on my DVD Player Cuts Out

Hi,

Can you tell me what's up with this? I recently hooked up a Sony DVD player to my 32 inch 2 year +/- old LED TV. It plays OK but after a few or several minutes, the video goes off the screen but the sound keeps playing over the TV. Does this sound like an HDMI cord issue? It has other means of hooking up to the TV although I have not got it to work with any way except with an HDMI cord. It takes a digital cable, a tiny black cable that has a red light in it, as well as the red/white/ and yellow cords. TIA for any advice on this.
I mainly hooked it up so I can watch an 8 DVD set of Dr Schulze's Herbal Healing.

Have you tried the DVD in another player or computer?

Not sure about the cables, I've had them go bad, but I'd check the media source first.

After that I'd try another HDMI cable.

The red/white and yellow cords are Left/Right sound and video (RCA connections). You may have to adjust the setting on the TV as to where it is to expect (source) signal from. RCA out from the DVD player to RCA in on the TV.

If you have multiple HDMI inputs on the TV try one of the others and confirm you viewing the correct source i.e. HDMI 1, HDMI 2 etc.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the DVDs. I used to watch them and they played OK.
It seems to be a new issue with the HDMI cable or something.
Good chance I have a faulty HDMI cable.
I think I can get one on eBay for about $5.

I seem to have it fixed for now. I hooked up that tiny black cable with the red light inside it (can't remember what they're called), and switched the HDMI connections on the back of the TV, and then changed the connection setting labels on the TV. So right now the DVD player is hooked up with both the HDMI cable as well as that tiny black cable with the red light inside it.

It is possible the HDMI cable is the issue..

Just to add to the above, the "tiny black cable with red light" Is optical audio cable, SPDIF high fidelity. It only outputs audio, just better quality than the analog white/red RCA cabling. With the popularity of HDMI cables (that can carry both audio and video) optical audio cables are becoming less common.
