Old school mountain bike gloves rant

Last couple times I shopped for mountain bike gloves I noticed they now...suck.

Used to buy fingerless/half-finger (same thing) gloves with really heavy padding on the palm (shut up Mad Doc) but nothing on the fingers so you can still use them without taking off the gloves.

Now both stores in town just carry full hand with no padding.

Reminds me of something my aunt would wear after she lotioned her hands.

If that's what they carry, that's what sells, so I don't blame the stores.

Just no idea why the consumer shift. I wear gloves to increase grip (still love GripShift), dampen the ride, and protect my palms if I eat sh*t.

Hence the heavy padding. The entire lines I've looked at are worthless in all three accounts.

I'm in the exact same position as you. Except I'm looking for a good road glove. I have a fairly thick set for when the temps drop and a very thin pair that are basically used as high-vis when I signal a turn. I've been disappointed with everything else in between. I'd really like a thin breathable set with plenty of padding that isn't going to fall apart after 10 rides.

There are decent fingerless padded riding gloves for motorcycles you may want to check out, either Amazon or some local leather/motorcycle shops should carry them.

Weight lifting gloves can do the trick too.

True that, thanks for the reminder.
