    Well damn...neighbor just died

Always weird when people are pulled out of your lives.

Got a call from a buddy of mine while at work.
Heard on the scanner they pulled a body out of a hot tub at a given address on my road.
My neighbor's property, hot tub on the back porch.

The owner has been renting it out the past 6-7 years, so figured it was the older tenant fellow who's been there.

Got home and the sheriff's coroner truck was in the driveway.
It left an hour later and, having seen the owner's truck in the driveway and figuring he came north to deal with everything, I headed over with a couple of beers.

Door was answered by 3 people, one of whom was the tenant I thought had died. Weird moment.
Asked if the owner was there, said I lived next door and saw the traffic.

All three looked at each other, referred to me by name and invited me in.

It wasn't the older tenant who died, it was the owner, dude next door I've known for 12 years. Really nice guy.
Chances are sh*t ass drunk and passed out in his hot tub and drowned. 54 years-old. Probably in the hot tub since last night.

They were all still in shock. Offered up the beer and chatted for a few minutes, offered my condolences.
They knew him a lot better, I knew him a lot longer.

    Weird, sad night.
    RIP Jim.

RIP... Weird way to go. What was he doing in the hot tub in the first place, if he had tenants and didn't live there ?

No clue. He spent most of his time in So Cal, but would come back up and stay at his place for a few days, few weeks.
Not sure if he rented out the house, or a room in it. Guessing the latter.

Hot tubs can exacerbate the effects of alcohol. Sweating in a hot tub, and alcohol both dehydrate your body and they both increase your body temperature, which can cause exhaustion and even unconsciousness. The heat increases your blood flow so you get drunk faster. Since the hot tub relaxes your mind and body, a person drinking alcohol can easily drift off into sleep.

It is probably not a good idea to drink in a hot tub alone, and if you really think about, in any situation getting drunk alone is dangerous.
