It was quite dry at the beginning of the summer... Now it's raining in the afternoons almost every day for a bit since I got back. It's ~80 right now here, it's actually 10 degrees colder than NYC, lol.

I'm in Dunedin, no flooding here, we have an awesome drainage system in our neighborhood.

Here's the 10-day rainfall totals from across the Bay area (in inches):

    Tarpon Springs 18.54
    Tampa International 14.59
    Clearwater 14.46
    Oldsmar 14.36
    Elfers 14.24
    Pinellas Park 13.09
    Dunedin 12.89
    Largo 11.12

Last year wife 'n I started eyeballing west coast FL...from around their..down to Bradenton, further south to Ft Myers. Drove it one weekend. Love to pickup a small place around there, rentable for when we're not there, to start a slow relocation south. Yup..another damn Yankee down there!

Tampa Bay/St.Pete/Clearwater is a good target area IMHO, large enough to have more IT opportunities. If you go down from Bradenton to Port Charlotte/Ft.Myers/Naples they're just small sleepy towns with not much happening, yes, there are people with money and it is pretty, but if you plan on doing IT for businesses the Tampa bay area would be a much better fit. The other options are Orlando, Jacksonville, or Ft. Lauderdale/Miami area, if you're not set on the west coast.

Definitely some streets were flooded in Tampa metro and some other outlying municipalities. Just the typical neighborhoods that are low (older) with poor drainage. My lake is up 5 feet, nothing close to my house though. It would need to rise about 8 more feet to even get close...

Gulf (West) coast beaches are better. Prettier sand, warmer water, less waves so that you can actually be in the water without waves knocking you around... With our white sand beaches, the color of the water is prettier too! The fishing is better on the East coast as deep water is closer to shore...

SCat, I thought that you were coming this way, this summer...?

Philip and Ken are right on with their assessment.

Although all of the Tampa Bay area communities run together cause were so densely populated, Dunedin is a very sought after community, they've done a fantastic job with the downtown area... lots of great restaurants and a marina, downtown sits right on the water with easy walking to everything there.

If you want a great realtor to find you something let me know.

    Come on down!

We could use some of that rain up here in Montana. My living room would be sure to get flooded, but I can smell the smoke in the air. I guessing there is a forest fire somewhere, as we had a lighting storm the other night, but with no or very little rain. There is never enough rain during the summer up here in the valley (plenty of lighting however), makes for a dry summer, and with it the huge risk of forest fires. In fact I am having a hard time remembering a summer when forest fires were not a problem in the valley. So yes, send that rain this way please.

A realtor to guide us from the Bradenton area....down to Ft Myers?

What I wanted to do, is find an area that is within a 1 hour radius of an airport that has direct flights from Providence RI (PVD). I know Tampa does. I think there's an airport near Ft Myers...gotta still research and see if they do. Direct flight to/from PVD keeps it affordable and quick for us to go back 'n forth.

He could help you in the Tampa area, you'll need someone from the other areas South... I can give you his number and he could get an idea of what exactly it is you want to get and do... do you even know for sure?

I think Ft. Myers airport has a nonstop to Providence.
